Meet Sara Moreno | Pet Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, why did you pursue a creative career?
Opening a small business in Pet Photography as a Latina has always been a dream of mine. Being able to express yourself through a lens is probably one of the best ways for someone to get to know you as a person. This is the main reason why it was so easy to decide to take the path of a creative career, it challenges you every single day. There’s always something new to learn about, from getting to know the struggles and accomplishments of a person and their faithful service dog to capturing a rescue dog’s first day in its forever home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Tails and Paws Photography is like my newborn child, its fairly new but it has brought so many good things into my life like being able to capture photos for pups who have been waiting for their forever home for a very long time, I’ve been able to meet really incredible human beings who dedicate their entire life to pet rescue and have also been able to give back to that amazing community. The good things overshadow the challenges of a small business, for example going from having a 9-5 job to having a 24-hour job, when you dedicate yourself to something you love you never stop investing in it. You have to really dedicate countless hours to networking, learning new photography skills, and finding other photographers who you want to interchange knowledge with and support each other.
Tails and Paws Photography was created to give pet parents and their pets an experience, more than capturing amazing photos we want them to leave our photo sessions happy, so when they see their final product of photos they have attached a core memory to each and every image.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
South Florida has been my home for many many years and there’s always a new spot or location to visit. Being a dog parent myself I always recommend places you can visit with your dog because it doubles the fun when they get to come along. I would start with Jupiter Dog Beach, it’s an off-leash dog beach with the most incredible clear blue water you will ever see, you get to sunbathe, swim, or sit down and read a book while your pup is having a blast. Atlantic Avenue is another great spot where you can find more than 10+ restaurants you can eat or have a drink and afterward take your dog to have some dog ice cream at Scoopy Doo’s. If you want to head to Miami for some great views and really great beaches you should also check out Intercontinental Miami, it’s a hotel in the heart of downtown Miami that hosts Paws Patio every Wednesday, it’s an open-air event that has amazing local vendors (dog treats, supplies, food) and you can mingle with fellow dog parents and enjoy drinks like Dirty Dog Martinis.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything I am as a person and animal lover is thanks to my amazing parents. Mami and Papi are the two people who raised this outspoken, creative, independent dream chaser. They taught me how to respect and love animals from the very beginning and they are responsible for my love of photography. They were the first people to buy my very first camera (a Kodak disposable camera from Walgreens) and tell me how amazing all my blurry photos were. Both my mom and my dad have taught me how hard work not only gets you places but it helps you surround yourself with people who believe in you. My fiance and my dogs are also a very big part of this journey, they inspire me every step of the way and are always by my side no matter what crazy idea or location we have to drive to in order to get the perfect photo.
