We had the good fortune of connecting with Sariai Bethel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sariai, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because the arts and being creative has always been apart of my life. My mom put me in an arts program at the African heritage cultural arts center as a kid and we learned about dance, drama, music, art and even fashion and it’s stuck with me ever since. I’ve always been more in touch with my creative side.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the creative director and founder of INOV8 Artwear. INOV8 Artwear is an elevated streetwear brand that focuses on self expression, fabric innovation, and fresh looks. Upcycling is also a huge part of my brand and is actually how i began my sewing career, going in thrift stores, finding clothes that caught my eye and altering them to my liking. As a started to gain more knowledge about making clothes, i loved the idea of taking vintage clothing and making them into a completely piece, ultimately giving it a new life. Before fashion school, i started my business in high school by selling custom painted clothes and shoes to my classmates and i even had my first fashion show in 2019. My most recent show was this past April debuting my first collection for my graduation at Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week, which is my most proud moment so far! I am most excited for my upcoming fashion show that I’m having with my friend Carl DUNA on August 1st, where i will be showing my second collection! This journey has not been easy but as i continue growing I’m learning to not be afraid to put myself out there and to trust in my abilities because anything can happen and I can do anything that i put my mind to. I want the world to know that INOV8 Artwear cares about the longevity of quality made clothes and to stand the test of time as a brand. INOV8 Artwear is here.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever i think about going out, the first place my mind goes to is wynwood. I’m a definitely an artsy girl, so i love all the sights to see with the graffiti art. Also, there is a large variety of places to eat and vibes to catch in wynwood so there’s something for everyone, especially during the summer and art basil. Also we live in Miami so the beach is a must! As i stated before i am an art girl so i personally going to art galleries/ exhibits to meet interesting people and also get inspiration for my own creations. I do also like to dance to loud music so a nice lounge, night club, or music event are cool place to go to.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family for supporting me but especially my mom for always uplifting me, loving me, and assuring me. I would also like to thank Ms. Rutch D’Oleo and all of my other fashion instructors at the fashion institute of Florida for sharing their knowledge with me and encouraging me to continue my journey as a fashion designer.
