We had the good fortune of connecting with Sashha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sashha, what do you attribute your success to?
There’s a couple of important factors to my success. One of them is a full “Commitment” with my self and my goal as a Dj/Music Productor.
Once I’ve taken action of that commitment, is followed by another important factor, “Consistency” to accomplish those goals.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have to say… the music industry chose me, I didn’t chose it.
Everything started as a promotor in the underground music industry. Assisting, working, promoting events and being around so many artists gave me an urge to know more about it. I started to find my self and my passion, my passion for music was so big it couldn’t be measured and some started to knowest ; So I started to do something about it.
My Dj friends motivated me to start following my instinct, my heart and feelings, so I began to practice, earning small gigs, also doing collabs with other artists and the story goes on and on…
After a year.. with good influence, guidance and mentoring, I decided to take the music career very seriously in 2018, I haven’t stopped ever sense!
I’ve observed and absorbed the different transitions in this industry, till today and it has changed a lot in a good way.
This had helped me, guided me and my career in what to do and what not to do creating a balance.
You can call this as a “Self Discipline”.
I’m always looking to be a better Dj and a better persona.
I’m a versatile Dj.
I could play some mean Drum n Bass as well as a really good House; But of course, those who know my work, knows my heart beats for Bass.
When I stand alone im ‘Sashha’, and I play Drum n Bass and a lil bit of Bass-House. I’ve been transmitted in Local and International radios like: Electric Demons Radio, Radio Underground PR, The Sabea Podcast form India, Ramp Radio from UK.
I also have this Duet project that it’s called ‘Sasharielle’ (Sashha+Sarielle) and together we play some exotic Tech-House earning a unique reputation in PR. So there’s this Light & Dark side in music genres and I love it!
For me It’s always about telling a good story, to make that special connection, bond with the public, to capture and captivate, to make the moment memorable, to stimulate the senses, to stamp your mark in the air so they can recognize that particular style, flow, vibe, feelings you give when you are on stage.
The Music Career is nothing easy, and who ever decided or got picked by this amazing expressive world; I gotta say, your in for a treat!
Cause it’s full of fun but also full of risks and sacrifices. It requires time, dedication, patience, maintenance and consistency to make something out of it.
That being said… After 5 years of observation, experiences, malice, energy, struggles, knowledge; I decided to take another risk and sacrifice to make my music career more solid, this has me enormously proud and excited like never before.
Now, In August 2022, I took the opportunity to study Audio Engineering and Music Production making my plans way bigger. It actually took me a lot of guts to make this decision but I realize that if I wanted to get bigger opportunities, I had to take bigger risks. It’s a goal and an accomplishment.
After this I have many ideas and plans with other local artist and music production is obviously one of them.
All this gave me the opportunity to see all the love, energy, support, help and motivation for music was being transform into something great, and it gave sense to take this new journey. My energy in music made me create this new path, not only for me.. for the music and what it can offer.
I wanna make a change, an evolution in music, something that will leave a mark in this industry, specially to represent the feminine side. I know it, I can feel it but I can’t describe it. You just gotta trust the process ;).
This career showed me a real reason for respect & value and I know its just the beginning of something amazing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh it would be a pleasure!! Been there done that already hehe.
We can’t start the day without a good Coffee & Breakfast so we will start at “La Coffeetera in Santurce”. Next to it theres the famous “Ocean Park Beach” and a little peek wont kill hehe.
I love adventures so during the day we would go Hiking to “El Yunque Rain Forest in PR”, Its beautiful.
Caribbean Food is one of the best so we would eat at “Metropol Restaurant” (so good) or at “Platos in SJ,” Carolina.
The best drinks to be honest are in this place called I”nnato in Miramar,SJ”.
In “Electric Wok in Old San Juan,” a spot I’ve performed many times, and in this beautiful Speaky Easy Bar called “Vine at Condado.”
All 3 places have won my respect cause of the hi class cocktails, beers, service & Atmosphere!.
At night the spots for a good party and after party’s are: FiftyEight at La Concha Hotel San Juan, La Marqueta at Condado, and for a more underground vibe and music we would go to Calle Loiza, its an extended street full of diversity, different vibes, styles and genres you can choose from!. And for a even darker atmosphere you should definitely check out this place called “Club 77,at Rio Piedras” for a good rave.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yeah! I would love to give a Shoutout to Sarielle aka ” SarielleKiller “. She’s another awesome female puertorrican dj representing this underground generation.
Also she’s part of my career. We’ve been having these project for years as a Duet, together we call our self
” Sasharielle ” . And let me tell ya, its pretty awesome!
Also to all those women around the world who struggle for success in life, no matter what career and interests are into. But those who decide to go on the path for music, be strong… cause for wemen in the industry, to grow organically in nothing easy.
