We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Webley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
– [ ]What was your thought process? To be honest I made these empanadas for myself , family and friends and one of them said to me these are so good you should need to start a business you need to sell them no one else has any other product out there like this . During that time was a stay at home mom and the pandemic hit and I was going through postpartum depression I really was going through a hard time looking for ways of income to help provide for my son , this business fell in my lap . I had enough courage to make a post on my Instagram that I will start selling empanadas ,and the support has been amazing Since because of God . While cooking the empanadas this brought me so much joy it helped me with my depression and my son was my inspiration and motivation . I made a special sauce after my son legend . to know I could bring delicious food an amazing sauce to people that have had never had anything like it before is a feeling that not enough words can’t express. knowing that I started this business for my son, Legend. It makes me happy to know that he will always know he is supported, in everything he does. Islands Twist N’ Refreshers is not only delivering good food, but the energy I have created will also make my customers happy with every bite . There are many things in my life that make me happy and I’m proud to say that my son is number one because of him he was the process thought of my business.
What should our readers know about your business?
I sell Caribbean style empanadas. I have Jamaicans style beef empanadas, seafood , jerk chicken, Philly cheesesteaks and veggies . My empanadas are not any ordinary empanadas. You have a taste of the Caribbean in all bites. . My seasons , herbs and flavors is what sets me apart from any other empanadas business. I have a very special Caribbean salad followed by a special legend sauce that is paired with all my empanadas. The most thing that makes me proud is that I started this business during a pandemic while going through depression and finding away to provide for my son . Because of my son that motivate me I named my special sauce legend because he is the reason of it all and that makes me so proud to have him the main factor of this business. It takes a lot of time and consistency to get to keep going . It wasn’t easy and the time doesn’t stop . Being patient has helped me with challenges i faced. don’t rush your products and never be afraid to ask for help .Doing a lot of research , writing ,and planning everything out . I learned not everything will go smooth and it will be bumps and challenges along the way but remain calm at times and not get frustrated or give up because of hiccups along the road . I want people to know that it’s just not about eating it’s about enjoying food because one thing good food brings to people is joy and want my energy to rub off on my representation of my food . Also it’s never to late to have a dream and an passion and because of my son and support from all my customers this journey of my business has saved my life and brought a joy I’m so blessed to have now and share with people.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a foodie and love all cultures especially Caribbean . I would go to my favorite sushi spot in wynwood called suhviche wynwood and sit in the patio in the swings and eat sushi and cocktails.! I love bayside so I’ll go there after wynwood and get some mojito at the mojitor bar. Go on the new Ferris wheel ride . Drive down a1 go to Jaxson ice cream shop. Walk on Hollywood beach board walk and then dance the night away to soca and reggae music to any Caribbean party that weekend . Most fun for me is dancing I love Caribbean parties .

I want to shout out my dad With grace wins company and brother with company Frenchies food world for helping with ingredients and guidance . My sons father for the support . The dizzle box foundation for the support and all the socials media followings and friends and family .
