We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Hendler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Jack of all trades, master of none.” In the craft & fabrication industry, we are told to find something you’re inherently good at and stick to it. Painters stay painters and carpenters stay carpenters. Most will say that this business model is the easier road. I do not believe we were created to pursue only one thing in life. Instead, I try my hand at all fabrication methods, materials, and mediums. I wake up every day as a student of life. When I clock into work every morning, I become a student of my craft. At Scotty Wonders, I am constantly challenging our team’s capabilities and adapting to new projects and skills. Stay curious, experiment, try, fail, succeed… it is all part of a multi-faceted journey and life well lived. Practice endless discovery.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Scotty Wonders is an interior design & custom furniture company. We work with wood, metal, masonry to create furniture and spaces for both residential and commercial projects. We are local pioneers in design and craftsmanship! No great endeavor is easy to achieve. With that said, Scotty Wonder’s evolution was entirely organic. There was never a clear direction or plan of where we wanted to go with the company. I literally just began building and fabricating things that made me feel good. The foundation that Scotty Wonders has been built upon is a reflection of the values instilled in me through my life’s journey in martial arts. Over time, there is a humbleness that develops and a level of appreciation for those around you. Words such as discipline, respect, and honor become character traits which then find their way into all aspects of your life. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu we say that it is a “lifestyle” not just a sport. I feel very much the same about Scotty Wonders. It’s not just a “brand”, it’s a lifestyle.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami is full of hidden gems and hangouts. Imperial Moto Cafe for AM coffee and motorcycle meet up, Pura Vida in the Design District for lunch, Shuckers for food with a view, and 1 Hotel South Beach for a chill vibe with drinks, naps, and a breeze.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every good leader should find strengths and talents in the voices and wisdom of others. I credit The Joe Rogan Experience for keeping me grounded during long days of fabrication. Instead of only listening to music while working, I choose to take the opportunity to learn and laugh along with one of many JRE guests. The podcast is very motivational to me and I enjoy the diverse conversations.
