We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shameka, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Playing it safe keeps you in your comfort zone. Greatness is not derived from comfort zones. It’s the uncomfortable moments where you have to leap that bring the big rewards. My life was one of many obstacles and trauma. The cards were stacked against me. Risk was always part of my life until I decided to make it work in my favor. I turned risk into seasons of leaping. Leaping allows me to do everything afraid and dream big. It allows me to go for the position I’m not fully qualified for, manifests the desire to be a best-selling author, and creates a beautiful family by breaking generational curse. Why not me? Turn risk-taking into seasons of leaping to live the life you want.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My nonprofit, Emma’s House Inc. was birthed in my leaping season. I was crazy enough to believe I could hold empowerment groups for little girls that look like me and provide therapy to a community of women that needed healing. Emma’s House Inc. is a place of comfort and healing. A place where your hurt turns into your purpose. I like to call myself a window watcher. I receive so much joy from watching someone heal from a place that was once hopeless. All things are possible if you leap. I’m faced with many challenges but I never forget my “why”. My purpose in life will always override temporary situations. Rain doesn’t last forever.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Las Vegas is the best place to enjoy the mountains, palm trees and sunshine. The perfect place to do outdoor shopping at Town Square and finish by dining on the patio at BRIO. The city is so versatile. You could enjoy nature by horseback riding through the mountains or enjoy a rooftop concert. You can escape the city life by traveling to Lake Las Vegas and enjoy the beautiful greenery.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother in law, Marquetta, is my biggest cheerleader. The person that walks with me during my season of leaping. The spiritual advisor that encourages me to dream big. Katy Steinkamp is the person that pushed me to see my true potential. Katy was my clinical supervisor as an intern. Katy could make me believe I could walk on the moon and I would do it.
