We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up like many out here considering myself a sneakerhead. Later in life I found myself buying shoes and never really wearing them because I could never find the right shirts and hats to match them up. I would get tired of doing just the plain black or white tee shirt to wear with my stuff. So, some time back my oldest two son’s asked why don’t we just make our own. It was something I wanted to do when I was younger but life, family and responsibilities kind of get you away from things you may have wanted to do. But when they said that it brought back that spark and designs started to pop in my head and then I went to YouTube to figure out how to create my own clothing. This turned into Allore Sports which stands for A Life Lived Off Real Experience. We all have our own real experiences that we live off which makes us who we are today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other clothing brands is that I allow people to have input into what they want on the garments. It can be a particular design and color scheme they want to go with a sneaker or sports team they cheer for. I noticed alot of brands will give you one, two designs and some basic colorways. I see nothing wrong with that as many of them have been very successful with keeping things simple. For me I always wanted to match things up and give that wow factor in my clothing. During my process of starting this I had many hurdles to get over as I was pretty much self-taught doing this. I stated earlier that I turned to Youtube which is pretty much a platform of free education right now to learn how to cut and press my shirts. I learned alot off of it but somethings they did not mention was heat settings and pressure settings that I had to learn the hard way when some of my customers informed me that the material I was using was peeling off the shirts. I got over that hurdle and things have been on the up and up for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whatever your vice may be Washington DC has pretty much all things covered. First thing you have to do when bringing someone here from out of town is taking them to get some chicken and Mumbo sauce from whatever your go to spot is. The lounges and club scene here is topflight along with your casual roof tops lounges and comedy and jazz spots. Top of the line dining down to some of the best small business brunch spots you can find. Museums, site seeing there is pretty much everything here for whatever desire you have.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All credit goes to my family for backing me in doing this. My friends who showed me love and continue to trust me when they have some sneakers they want to match up or just something creative in their minds that they want to make and have my logo on it.
