We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Jaipersaud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When starting my photobooth business, I spent months researching and making sure that it was a good fit for me. I know that if I were to do something so closely attached to me that I am going to give it my all. The idea of making people smiles and creating memories to someone’s event ultimately made me decide that this is for me. Some events we do are such a special moment, milestone or a one in a lifetime type of event, being a part of that truly is a privilege. I can list dozens of other thoughts that went through my head when making this decision. However, none of them are as important as making a special day for someone’s event even more magical. I truly believe that having the ability to create memories and make people smile is one of the best jobs anyone can have.
What should our readers know about your business?
I can’t tell you exactly when or why, but I have always gravitated to doing some sort of business, almost instinctually. From a young age I started selling clothing and shoes, from there I never stopped finding ways to keep myself busy. Even though One Click Photo Booths is less than one year old, getting to where the business is today took a lot of time and strategy. By no means was this easy, but the entire time leading up to this moment was always rewarding. I enjoy building something that I know will only grow into something bigger than me. There isn’t a week that goes by where an issue pops up, that is just part of the life of an entrepreneur running a small business. The best way of overcoming this is by being accountable. When I say that, I don’t mean just when its convenient, I mean in totality. On the best days its because of you and on the worst day its because of you. Once I truly embodied that, my mindset shifted and you start to realize that you fully have control of your destiny if you’re willing to see it. I learned so many lessons while building One Click Photo Booths. If I had to pick one lesson to pass on it would be to look ahead and plan. In business it is highly likely that someone has done this before you or you are able to guess some possible outcomes. Soak up all the knowledge, have a plan for everything and be one step ahead of any problem. Take that bet on yourself and show the world that you’re ready for it. I truly want the world to know that every thing you’re doing right now is a memory in the making, whether you realize it or not. You will look back at the pictures or think of when you attended an event, in reality you’re creating that moment right now as you read this. One Click Photo Booths is entirely centered around freezing that moment for you to remember for years to come. We find those moments so special and should be cherished, we just so happen to be lucky enough to create those memories.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I has a friend in town, there are so many places that I would take them. South Florida literally always has something going on any given day. Living so close to Fort Lauderdale and Miami there is so much to do. A few places I would want to take them is definitely the Hard Rock Casino, for dinner and gambling if that is their thing. We would also have to go to Etaru right on the water and then check out the beach after. Wynwood and a few other spots in Miami are great for clubbing and always a good time. Terrazas, Blue Moon or Moxies all have a great brunch for those late morning breakfasts. There are always great food festivals or events to attend. Lastly, we absolutely have to get out on the water on a boat or jet ski one day. Nonetheless, plenty of options to pick from.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I immediately thought of two different groups of people when asked this question. The first and most impactful will have to be my parents. I grew up in a immigrant household where working hard is the bare minimum and that we should take pride in our ability to work. Both of parents have been supportive of this venture and continue to encourage me. Next are my two mentors, Khanai and Mrs. Lockett. I have known both of my mentors for over 10 years and we continue to grow and walk through different challenges as time goes on. While both ground me in very different ways, I can’t help but attribute a large portion of my ambition to them. Khanai(or as I like to call him, Mr. 360) pushes to see business from a practical perspective while never bending or breaking what matters to me most. He instills a ‘anything is possible’ mentality into my mindset. Mrs. Lockett, may not even be aware of how much she helps me emotionally but does this so effortlessly. Mrs. Lockett has so much life experience that when we speak she reminds me to appreciate and enjoy aspects of life that sometimes I completely neglect. She taught me to learn to embrace my feelings rather than run or ignore them.
