We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Roney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In the beginning of any business, I think any owner has to do all the work themselves at first. Then you find out, you can not do it alone and need some help! I was never afraid to ask, look for help or start delegating tasks. The problem is, when you are new, you do not have as much money or working capital or how to even hire or pay someone to help you. I spent a lot of time asking others professionals and mentors of mine what I could do to grow my business, but also make it flow better. If you are too busy in your work life, you miss out on family life, social activities and even time to relax and take care of yourself. You have to take care of yourself financially, spiritually and physically or everything falls apart. This is where the work / balance scenario must take hold. The best decision I ever made was to start getting help with sending emails, flyers, website and social media posting and taking my phone calls. The first step to making my life easier was to get a better phone system that sent certain calls to my cell phone and others to some of my assistants I paid that also went to their cell phone. I gave them the flexibility to make as many decisions and answer as many questions as possible without my feedback to give me time to do other tasks. This along with them also answering some of my emails or me forwarding them emails to answer that did not need all of my attention. I also tried to not answer any phones or emails during family time to show that my family is just as important as work.

What should our readers know about your business?
CPR Florida is unique because we offer life saving classes to healthcare providers, but also to the community and to anyone who wants to learn the necessary life saving skills of cpr, how to use an aed, choking and first aid skills. We teach a number of classes that range from layperson classes to certifications that doctors, nurses, paramedics and healthcare providers need along with ceus. It is amazing to own a company but to also instruct others so they can have a positive impact both at work and in their own home or community. To us, the more people that know how to save a life, the safer our world can be. Whether it is knowing how to help an infant who is choking, how to stop sever bleeding or the warning signs of a stroke, we are here to help you and give you a fun and educational learning experience and your certification ecard the very same day.
