We had the good fortune of connecting with Shwaze Collins Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shwaze Collins, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I believe that by me being there for my son each and everyday is the biggest impact that I can have. With this being new to me i think the best thing is that we learn through experience and so to see my son grow everyday i feel like im doing a good job because i can see the results of him learning from me with what i try to teach him. He also is teaching me to be a parent as well. I can see him following in my footsteps because he is with me majority of the time he likes to mimic me so how i carry myself impacts him because he wants to do as I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to wanting to be one of the top artist especially being where i am from (Baltimore), there are many challenges. One of which is that I feel like we dont get a big spotlight on the talent that we do have in this city. Its so much talent here but we haven’t reached a point where the rest of the world really knows it. I think the main thing that separates me from other artist whether they be from here or anywhere else is my versatility and i have an ear for knowing what my sound is. A lot of artist don’t generally know their lane. When i say versatility i mean that i can switch my tone and change flows at will when i rap in order to create a better piece of music. I honestly can fit on pretty much any instrumental. I feel like i am most proud about the growth i have made since i started making music back in 2009. My music is a lot more polished and more cohesive especially my writing skills. Though I may not get the recognition i feel like i deserve yet, everyday im working to get better at my craft and learn how to take myself to different heights in the city and further beyond. I wont settle for nothing less than what i feel like i deserve but I know i just have to keep working and have patience to know that it will all pay off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think some of the most fun places around the area would have to be Autobahn for go-kart racing, Main Event and Dave and Busters which have a plethora of fun activities like laser tag, arcade games, bowling, and 8ball pool. The horseshoe Casino which also has some of the best pizza around or Live Casino. The harbor depending on the weather has lots of food attractions. Fed Hill and Fells Point have lots of bars and food attractions as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I have to thank God without him i do not exist and those i help credit my success do not exist as well. I would like to thank my family for always supporting my vision and future with music that i continue to pursue. I would like to thank my mentor Rickie Jacobs for helping to better my craft and become a better artist when it comes to mindset and how to access my talent to a higher plateau that I could not even imagine. I have to thank my close friends Jay Verze and Mack Scott who have been with me since the beginning of my journey helping to show what recording essentials i needed and helping push me even when i felt like giving up on myself. I would like to thank Jayno another close friend who is also my main producer that shares the same vision of success i do and being there even outside of music. I would like to thank Taji Burris who is also a close friend of mine who has played the role as my manager in a sorts to help me reach out to others in order to guide my music to outer places and also being there outside of music as well. Other shoutouts i would like to include go out to Sway, 7uca, The Working Title Family, Jasmine, Jroc, Manny, 187, Jony B, all who have played pivotal roles whether it be with music or just being there as a friend to me.
