We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvana Cure and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Silvana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has been the driving force behind my journey, the reason, almost 5 years ago, I embraced the unknown and discovered a whole new world I never imagined possible .

While my 10+ years in engineering and architecture projects offered a strong sense of stability, I knew it wasn’t my true calling, so I made one of the toughest decisions of my life: to step away from the familiar and leave behind everything I had built to pursue a more challenging but fulfilling path.

I dedicated five years to studying civil engineering, one year to my postgraduate degree, and another ten years working in the architecture and construction industry, only to realize that my career was not enough. If I wanted to enjoy the journey, I needed to make a REAL change. It was then that I decided to move to Florence to study Interior architecture, expecting to find my true purpose. To my surprise, I found an even deeper passion: drawing.
This was absolutely unexpected. I stumbled upon art accidentally, but I truly feel this newfound talent was transferred to me somehow from my mother who was an incredibly gifted artist, and who passed away at 56.

This decision opened up a whole new world of creative expression and personal growth that has since become one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of my life. The transformative experience of studying in Florence exposed me to a rich artistic heritage that helped me discover this hidden talent and passion I didn’t know existed before.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Art has always been a part of my life; I was surrounded by it while growing up but had never pursued it. My mother was a talented artist, and my grandfather was an architect and a painter, providing me with an early exposure to art.

Combining this artistic background with my technical expertise has given me a unique perspective on the creative process.

In my studio, now based in Miami, I focus exclusively on pencil and charcoal drawing. My work is in constant evolution but is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to reinterpret reality, capturing the essence, the beauty and complexity of my subjects and reshaping the world around us, in a particular blend of technical skill and emotional expression.

I am excited to share I’m currently working in a new series and venturing into surrealism, which is an entirely new artistic territory for me, in an exploration of form and beauty that challenges the boundaries of reality, which I feel will give a new meaning to my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami’s cultural scene is incredible, it offers a wide array of events and activities for everyone, so definitely attending a festival, art exhibit, concert, etc., would be a part of the itinerary. The Perez Art Museum is absolutely stunning, apart from the wonderful exhibits, the architecture and the panoramic views of Biscayne Bay are a delight to experience.
Lunch at Mandolin at Design District is a must.
Calle dragones in Calle Ocho has an amazing cabaret-style show.
Walking around Coconut Grove, is something I greatly enjoy, Amal, Los Felix, Sadelle’s or Narbona are my go-to spots, Level 6 rooftop for cocktails at sunset.
Mila in Miami Beach for incredible food and beautiful ambiance.
And the best pizza you’ll have in Miami by far is O’Munaciello, you can’t miss that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people in my life who deserve some credit and recognition for where I am today.

First and foremost, I am forever grateful to my late mother, whose talent I believe she somehow passed on to me. It’s truly remarkable how this newfound gift for art emerged in my life just a few years ago, and I can’t help but feel that it was her guiding light leading me to this unexpected path. Her influence has given me the courage to explore this passion, and I carry her memory with me in every stroke of my pencils, she is my inspiration.

My sisters have also played a pivotal role in my journey. Their constant support and encouragement when I decided to change career paths were instrumental in giving me the confidence to take that leap of faith. Knowing that I had their backing made all the difference, and I am forever grateful to them for being pillars of strength in my life.

And lastly, my father, my biggest fan and constant source of wisdom. He has been there for me every step of the way, offering valuable advice and support in everything I do. His belief in me and his constant helping hand have been invaluable, and I am humbled and grateful for his presence in my life.

I feel truly blessed to have such inspiring people by my side, shaping my journey and encouraging me to pursue my passions. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I am filled with gratitude for their love and support.
