We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art has always been my thing. I just had a hard time figuring out in what form should I pursue it. In school art was always my favorite class. I can’t draw, like at all so that was out of the question. lol One thing I do love is beauty. I would join things like modeling school, beauty pageants etc just to have an excuse to do my make-up and dress up. At one point I was in the back of the beauty pageant , that I was participating in, doing the other girls makeup as well. I strayed away from becoming a makeup artist for a while because I was told many times its “not a real job”. I attended Beauty Schools of America. They finessed me a little and I had a balanced to pay. So I went back to college, and changed my major a million times. I finally settled with nursing. I couldn’t pass my math class and now Im here! lol I decided to purse my passion, instead of listening to nay sayers. Im so hoppy that I did because TRULY love what I do.
What should our readers know about your business?
Si’Luxxe Beauty Bar is a LUXRY beauty bar that provides luxury services. Every product used has been carefully hand picked to ensure that quality is the main priority. Also you have to see Si’Luxxe! It’s absolutely beautifullll. Also I have 10 Years of experience as a licensed esthetican.
I just opened my store front which has always been a dream of mine. Its like a dream come true and that’s what I am most proud of through this journey. Getting here was far from easy. Do you know how discouraging it is to hear “that’s not a real job” from multiple people and STILL purse your dreams. Along the way many things has happened in my business and personal life that could’ve been my reason to say forget it. BUT I kept pushing. I really really love what I do so nothing was or is going to stop me from pursing it. I now take the “downs” or the hard times as a challenge to overcome because it won’t stop this show. Before I opened my store front, everyone was kicked out of the building that I was renting a room from. Given 2 weeks to move out. I couldve quit then. Im happy that I didn’t, Im happy I kept pushing.
I over came my challenges by praying about it for one. I always pray that God gives me the ideas, courage, and plans needed to grow my business. I have a clear vision of how big Si’Luxxe will. be and I know that these visions only come from God. Its only right that I pray when I feel like quitting or scared to fail. I also have my wonderful man who takes on any and all challenges with me. That man wont let me quit or be discouraged. lol He’s ALWAYS pushing and encouraging me.
A lesson Ive learned is to keep pushing. You make enough noise they will hear you. To be patient! It wont happen over night. it may happen faster for others. Just applaud them and stay on track. We are all running our OWN race. I also learned that there will be things that will have to be sacrificed to get to where you need to. Might have to sacrifice sleep, or getting your hair done every month or getting a hoopty instead of that luxury car. Whatever it may be, the temporary sacrifice will be well worth it in the long run.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to GOD! GOD! God provides everything that I pray for. My man for pushing me and believing in me. Speaking life into me at times when I felt like my dreams were too big for me. My LOYAL clients. I have a very loyal clientele base and I LOVE them. They 100 percent encouraged me and stuck by me the entire ride!
