We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Leeming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Patience, If my business and the growth of the business has taught me anything it would be patience.
Whenever i used to look at business growing up they all seemed to be “an overnight success” but in fact they weren’t, we as consumers just never saw the hard work, time and dedication that came before the success.
I had to learn that growing Salt and Ripple was not going to be a fast road, it was going to be a long bumpy road and from that i learnt to become more comfortable with the thought and idea that time in fact is on my side.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ever since i was in high school, i had been really big on wearable art. Was always judged a little too much because of it. Bright colours were just a go to for me and they still are to this day and i’m so grateful i didn’t let other people’s thoughts and feelings change that for me as i wouldnt have this amazing business if i did.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Byron Bay, Australia, the name says it all. Therefore let a local Byron bay girl take you on a tour like a local. Sunrise at the iconic Byron Bay lighthouse followed by at coffee from the coffee cart out the front of Rae’s. Once we are caffeinated it’s time to hit wategos or the Pass depending on the tides. If you don’t surf thats okay, there’s ample amounts of beach to lay on and get a nice Byron Glow!
Now that you’re all sunsoaked and ready for a night on the town, we get dressed and head to the pub (yes how australian) being a beach town we don’t really have nightclubs as such but we have killer dancefloors in our pubs.
There’s nothing more inviting than sunset drinks by the ocean, with live music in the top park.
If you ever find yourself in byron, enjoy the little things…..they have a lot to give
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a few people that have been there from the start and some that have been there for not as long but came in full force. Tiana – She is one of my best friends, we met at uni and i was swinging on my chair at the beginning of a lecture, we realised we were in the same class and became friends. Fast forward 6 years later, we are on the phone EVERYDAY for at least 3 hours talking business strategies for each others businesses.
Hannah – Been there from the start and is the proud OG Salty Nipples Team member.
Jane & Tony, AKA mum & Dad – they are forever jumping in and packing orders when i used to run off overseas for inspiration, or helping me set up market stalls and maintenance of said stalls. Also for just being straight up legends always.
and last but not least. My year 10 art teacher! Trish or i like to call her Mum 2.0, We catch up for coffee and talk about new collections, art, life and about everything else. She’s the reason i have confidence to express my art through my business
