We had the good fortune of connecting with SJ (Sarah) Morgensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SJ (Sarah), maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been a writer. Exploring new places has always been super important to me – there’s so much to see and learn out there! But, I’ve never had enough time to really do it like I want to. A couple of weeks a year just isn’t enough time for me to explore. I remember one year I bought a huge map of the USA and put it over my little corporate America cube at the office. Looking at that map all day while sitting in front of my computer, I’d daydream of actually going to all these cool places I had pinned on the map. That planted the seed for me. I decided I’d figure out a way to combine my wanderlust with my writing. So that led to my business which includes freelance writing and content creation, all fueled by travel.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a freelance travel writer and content creator, I travel the USA and write about it. My goal is to inform my audience about places they may not be familiar with and activities in those places that they probably haven’t tried. I aim to shine the spotlight on off- the-beaten-path USA destinations that may be somewhat under the radar. There are so many wonderful places in our 50 states. My other goal with my business is to show people that travel doesn’t have to be expensive. There are lots of money saving techniques people can use to make their travel budget go farther – like using credit card points & miles, signup bonuses and taking advantage different promotions. It all adds up to more travel money! I love sharing great travel destinations & information with people! It’s so rewarding when people tell me my information helped them learn more about a particular place; or I inspired them to book their own trip. My business is in it’s infancy stage honestly. I feel like there is so much room to grow in this field. There will always be cool and unique places to discover!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them up to Boca Raton and Del Ray Beach. I’m a big baseball fan, my son played for FAU in Boca Raton (Go Owls!!), so we’d head up to Boca and enjoy a relaxing day at the ballpark. From there, we’d head over to Mizner Park and do some shopping, then have a drink at the Dubliner. While in Boca, we’d definitely have to hit Ichiyami for their absolutely incredible sushi and seafood. Another spot I love in Boca is Flakowitz Bagel Inn. We stop at Flakowitz’s for their tasty, homemade bagels every single time we’re in Boca. In Del Ray, we’d enjoy brunch at Caffe Luna Rosa, then we’d walk across the street and hit the beach. In the evening, we’d go to dinner at Park Tavern or Deck 84. Then, we’d go bar hopping up and down Atlantic Ave. You can’t go wrong in sunny south Florida!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my family for being my biggest fans, and of course I thank God for all these incredible opportunities. Every single day I wake up thankful for the gifts and love in my life!!
