Meet Slobodan Bob Jokic | Clock Maker, Horologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Slobodan Bob Jokic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Slobodan Bob, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had a deep appreciation for mechanical craftsmanship, especially in timekeeping devices. I grew up surrounded by antique clocks and was fascinated watching my grandfather restore and even build his own. The smell of tools and clock movements, the sound of ticking, bells, and chimes — these became part of my world and made working with clocks feel like much more than just a business.
With a formal education in Archaeology and History, combined with early hands-on training in clock repair and decades of experience, I’ve developed both a technical skill set and a deep respect for the historical value of timepieces. Over the years, I’ve noticed a growing need for skilled clock professionals, especially as fewer people are entering the trade. At the same time, many communities have lost their local repair experts, even though people still cherish heirloom clocks for their craftsmanship and personal significance.
I saw an opportunity to fill that gap — to offer careful, reliable, and high-quality service to those who want to preserve these timeless pieces for future generations.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business specializes in the repair, appraisal, restoration, and maintenance of mechanical and quartz clocks — from antique mantel and wall clocks to modern timepieces and large grandfather clocks. I offer full-service care including cleaning, overhauls, bushing work, part replacement or fabrication, movement adjustments, and case restoration. Whether it’s a treasured family heirloom or a collectible piece, I treat every clock with the precision and respect it deserves.
What sets my business apart is the combination of traditional craftsmanship with historical knowledge. With a background in Archaeology and History, and decades of hands-on experience, I approach each job with both technical skill and an understanding of the clock’s cultural and sentimental value.
I operate with a strong focus on quality, honesty, and customer trust. I offer personalized service, clear communication, and fair estimates. Many clients come to me looking for help with irreplaceable clocks, and it’s a privilege to help keep those timepieces running for generations to come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in Miami include the Wynwood Arts District for its creative energy, and I love taking a stroll through Coconut Grove, where I often stop for coffee at one of the local cafés.
Fort Lauderdale is home for me, and I often find inspiration in the antique shops along Las Olas Boulevard. The historic charm of the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens and Riverside makes it one of my favorite places to slow down and take in Florida’s beauty and history — definitely where I’d take friends visiting from out of town.
I also have a deep appreciation for the Everglades — wild, raw, and peaceful. It’s not for everyone, but for me, it’s a place to reset and reconnect.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a special shoutout to my wife, Tania, for her unwavering patience, support, and belief in me every step of the way. I’m also grateful to my golden retrievers, cats, and all my animal companions — their unconditional love and joy bring balance and happiness to my life and work.
I also want to recognize the horology community — especially the members of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC) — for preserving knowledge, offering support, and inspiring others to carry on this beautiful and intricate trade. Their shared resources and passion have played a big part in my journey.
