We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Schau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, what is the most important factor behind your success?
As a wedding photographer, what matters most for me and my brand is taking care of my clients to ensure they have a seamless and positive experience from the moment they inquire with me to when they receive their wedding photos (and even after that!).
It’s not just about taking great pictures—it’s about connecting with the couple, understanding their story, and capturing all the emotions of their big day. By building trust and making them feel comfortable, I can get those authentic moments that really matter.
And when my clients are happy, they tell their friends and family about me which means the absolute world for me. Getting referrals from happy couples not only shows that I truly cater to them, but it also helps me grow my business and reach more people who value photography and a great experience. For me, it’s about caring for each and every one of my clients and their families too!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d love to share a bit about my journey as a wedding photographer. For me, it’s all about capturing the unique love stories of each couple and those special, authentic moments that reflect who they are.
What makes me stand out is my dedication to giving each client a personalized experience. I take the time to understand their vision for their big day and give them ideas on what may work better while also getting to know them so the photos truly resonate with them.
I’m most proud of the connections I’ve built with my clients and the trust they have in me to capture their special day. It’s incredibly rewarding to receive the amazing and happy responses to seeing their wedding galleries for the first time.
It hasn’t always been easy to get where I am today. Like any creative field, there have been challenges along the way. I pride myself in being able to overcome and adapt quickly in any situation that may seem challenging–whether that is adjusting to a change in the timeline of a wedding day or trying new social media trends. I’ve also been able to really grow as a creative in the way I work with the couple and the art I produce.
A big lesson I’ve learned is the importance of staying true to myself and my artistic vision. Being authentic has helped me attract the right clients and build a solid reputation.
Ultimately, I want people to know that my passion for photography is about more than just taking beautiful portraits. It’s about telling stories, capturing emotions, and creating memories that will live forever in photo albums for generations to come. I’m grateful every day for the chance to do what I love and be part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would highly recommend visiting Vizcaya Museum and Gardens – I have photographed engagement sessions here but have also visited on my own free time and can say it is a stunning location with great views! As far as places to eat/drink, I’m a huge fan of coffee and love Macondo Coffee Roasters. They have several locations across Miami and their coffee is so good. Here are a few other restaurants and places I love: Coyo Taco, Greenstreet Cafe, Taikin Asian Cuisine, La Mar by Gastón Acurio and Night Owl Cookies.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, I want to give a shoutout to my amazing partner, Gaby. She’s been my rock and biggest supporter throughout every part of my business journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her love and encouragement.
Gaby has always been there for me, cheering me on and believing in my dreams even when I doubted myself.
Beyond just emotional support, Gaby is always willing to lend a hand whenever I need it. Whether it’s being my assistant or second shooter on a wedding day, brainstorming ideas or giving her opinion, I know I can count on her.
So, to Gaby, thank you for everything. Your love, support, and kindness mean so much to me, and I couldn’t imagine this journey without you. You’re my greatest blessing, and I’m endlessly grateful for you.
