We had the good fortune of connecting with Steffan Jarrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steffan, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Funny enough, I came up with the idea for this brand “Almost There” after putting my previous brand (Random Vacation) to rest. I was in a tough spot creatively. It felt really hard to be consistent. A lot of my ideas felt as though they didn’t fit that brand anymore. My taste level had risen and I wanted to do something different. I suffered from imposter syndrome & analysis paralysis (and every other blockage that most of us creators face. Basically just getting in our own way). One day, I just decided to scale everything back to the basics. The reason for creating at all. The process. The journey of watching an idea come to life, every step of the way. This way, I’m able to take the (over) thinking out of it and keep the stakes low, but the standards high, & just make art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is really a culmination of my life experiences. It’s a gateway to my perspective & world view. Almost There is an ORIGINAL company. Emphasis on “original”. This brand is an extension of me. From designing & producing clothes & other products that are meant to be a functional part of your life, to photography & videography, to creative direction for other artists, brands & companies; The common thread between all of these things is the world that they live in. Everything I work on is intentional and designed to evoke something.

I’ve seen a ton of challenges on this journey and I live by the saying: “The top of one mountain is the bottom of another.” I hope I got the saying correct…. Well, if I didn’t, I guess this is the remix. I say all that to say, I’m excited to climb. I’m looking forward to really pushing myself creatively & pumping out product & content. Everything I do affects my business and I’m excited to try new things and see what sticks. I’m looking forward to building more community and empowering the next person.

I was doing all of the things I’m doing now, as a teenager. My Love for my art is deep. If I could say anything to anybody, I’d say: never give up. Do not stop until the goal(s) you want to achieve are materialized. That applies to me as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
South Florida in general is really full of surprises. You could end up anywhere, and there’s fun around the corner. So I’ll just name a few things in no particular order.

– The beach – pick one, it doesn’t even matter. I’d put a Soflo beach up against any other.
– Miami heat basketball game – atmosphere like no other.
– The shrine at Red Rooster Overtown – Dancing. A lot of Dancing.
– The backroom at Coyo taco
– Rise & Toast Brunch – Good music, Good Vibes, Good People, always.
– Steve’s Pizza – Best Pizza in Soflo. Unrivaled. (A lot of people may not agree, but if you know, you know.)
– Vista View Park – Steep hills, made for runnin’. Nothin’ like a good outdoor workout.
– Superblue museum
– Almost any cuban restaurant
– Kingston Delight in north miami
– Planta miami – bomb vegan food & dining experience

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First & foremost, I’d have to shoutout my mother. I realized a few years back that she’s really the reason for all of this. She exposed me to the arts because she was doing it herself. My mother was running a clothing brand in 2001 & I was just there, soaking up game the whole time. Colin of SaSa Studios, the reason film making & cinematography even hit my radar in a serious way. I owe him a lot. (Shaq & Kobe). Robbie of LifenLenses, we started together. LITERALLY. Mark M. of Lower East Coast. You don’t get anything you see from me creatively, without him. He helped shape this vision early on. Dvunte, The epitome of hustle & work ethic. Also one of the sickest DJ’s coming out of Florida. Jah. Joval of Jadorn photo. K-Cee L. of Thoseboysfit. Paul of PAC Performance. Hollywood Ju of L.A.B.B. Kovalski Jacques. Hess, for seeing the vision early and keeping me accountable. Tre. Myc aka Claypieces. My sisters Tiff & Tiff & KP. The youngins: Rich, JR, Luna & Coco & Karissa & Dylan & Ju. I would like to give a special shoutout to my Highschool teacher Mrs. Fine. She sharpened all my skills and gave me the tools. I’m forever grateful. So much more people to shoutout, but these people here, have helped me take a step forward with my dream, one way or another.
