We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steven, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, it all began with curiosity. After over a year of sobriety, I started exploring non-alcoholic wines. I had always leaned on NA beer when out with friends or at dinner, but wine was a new frontier. What struck me was that so much of what we enjoy about wine isn’t just the taste—it’s the story, the brand, the feeling, the ritual.

As I looked around, I saw that this elevated experience simply didn’t exist yet in the non-alcoholic wine space. That realization—paired with a genuine curiosity and a clear gap in the market—was the formula that pushed me to commit to building something new.

It actually started with a simple idea: to import the best non-alcoholic wines into Australia, where I’m originally from. But what began as a personal project quickly ran into roadblocks. The process of trying to import just a few cases led me down a rabbit hole of production, logistics, and regulation. That friction sparked even deeper curiosity—and soon, I wasn’t just looking to bring in wine, I wanted to create it.

I’ve always been drawn to creating—through design, collaboration, storytelling—so building a business felt like a natural extension of that. For me, launching Society De La Rassi is like crafting a living piece of art. It’s not just about the product, but the people, the energy, the rituals, and the way it moves through the world. That’s what inspires me every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a child, I always had a film camera in my hand—creating short films from a very young age, which eventually blossomed into a career in film, television, and luxury events. For me, it was always about producing work that felt authentic, in a way I genuinely enjoyed creating. This naturally led to a distinct and recognizable style that came to define my career over the years.

My approach has always been rooted in simplicity—but simplicity can be hard to replicate. In a world where more is often more, especially in the technical side of filmmaking, I believed that less was more. Filming in a way that suited my candid taste became my signature. I’ve always believed that art should be an honest expression of both taste and form—how we move through a moment, how it feels, and how it ultimately looks, all contribute to creating a unique artistic language.

It was never about comparison or chasing trends. I didn’t draw daily inspiration from the current world around me. Instead, I drew from my childhood—and once I found my style, I stayed in my lane and looked inward to create outward.
