We had the good fortune of connecting with Joycy Ann Lacombe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joycy Ann, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Illuminating Hope – I would say that the brand speaks for itself. The reality of Hope and the power that it has to shine light in the darkest of places, regardless of the circumstance is powerful. I have chosen to simply be an ambassador of the Hope that does exist and is available to everyone in every situation. My skills and experiences enable me to creatively build personalized onramps and bridges for people to discover the hope that does exist in and beyond their current situation and to hold space for people until they are ready to grab hold of Hope themselves. It is an honor and privilege to step into painful, scary places with my clients because I am armed with knowing there is always a way through. Illuminating Hope – the brand speaks for itself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I have always known that I wanted to work within the field of psychology. I followed the traditional route, earning a B.A. in Social Psychology right after high school. Then after several years in the field, I continued on to earn my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling while working, volunteering and parenting full-time. I was intentional to attend full-time as well in order to complete the degree in two years. So, no, it was not easy, sacrifices were made, but I kept my head down and kept my eyes focused on each next step until I was finished. I was fortunate to ease my way into the field, learning the ins and outs of building a private practice by asking questions of mentors and business owners along the way. I took my time and gave myself room to make mistakes. When it was time to fully branch out on my own, I created a brand that reflected the work I had already been doing – illuminating hope. Now Illuminating Hope, LLC, has expanded beyond my four walls, as one special client encouraged me to do. I have published my first book on Emotional Regulation, titled, “Getting Back to Me: A Book on Emotional Regulation for Children and Adults” – found on Amazon. I use my background in education to teach others in systematic and creative ways, whether I am on a panel, speaking at a conference or my current favorite creative outlet, my instagram page: @Illuminating_Hope. Here, I choose one topic a month under the umbrella of mental health and post valuable, shareable resources and information. One area that I focus on and specialize in my practice is the field of Trauma/PTSD. It has been a privilege to eradicate the myth that trauma is a permanent condition and to teach others that the healing that they need is found within.

I coin myself as a perpetual learner – there is always more to learn and I love sharing what I am learning in my journey with others to help illuminate their minds to possibilities formally unseen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Mizner Park Boca Raton, live music, variety of nice to upscale dining options, shopping, beautiful outdoor seating.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several instances where I can easily identify turning points that have been part of the foundation responsible for getting me to where I am today. My parents, first and foremost, have always believed in my ability to accomplish anything I set my mind to. My father, having three daughters, never mentioned a glass ceiling; barriers to our callings in life were non-issues. I distinctly remember him telling us we could be the President of the United States if we wanted to. He not only encouraged us to pursue our individual dreams, he expected us to. With each accomplishment, in the midst of the celebration, he would gently, but firmly, set my eyes to ask myself what is next? I appreciate him for developing that desire to dream and to build as long as I have breath.

One organization as a whole that I have found rest and opportunity to create what I have today is, Church by the Glades in South Florida. I was in given the opportunity to create a platform where people in and outside of the church could receive therapeutic services from licensed professionals. I have been approached by other organizations to model their own programs after what we have been able to successfully build here. Currently, I have a list of trusted professionals that I refer out to in the community, as the need for services has grown exponentially over the last two years.

I have been blessed with many friends and close circles of friends, but I would like to highlight two in particular. They spoke life over me, encouraging me in specific ways aligned with my calling and were the catalysts for the upwards trajectory that I have been on for over ten years – Matt & Summer Boone. They saw something in me, something I privately saw in myself and called it out of me. I know that they were sent there in that season so I could come out the place I had been hiding and begin living the authentic life I have today.

For all of the support and supporters in my life, I am eternally grateful.
