We had the good fortune of connecting with Sue Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sue, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Tenacity. In order to be successful in the South Florida local live music/cover band scene, you have to be patient, open to critique but most importantly, you have to be tenacious. The scene is constantly changing and the path to success involves ongoing learning, investing in yourself and your band. You really have to be persistent, hustle and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Exit Left Rock & Party Band has been performing throughout South Florida since 2003. There have, however, been many, many changes since then. Like most bands, we initially had growing pains, changes, and challenges. However, we feel that we have gained patience and experience and, as such, feel that we have almost perfected our brand. We strive to be a fun, engaging & exciting band. Our song lists are also selected based on fan feedback. One of the unique things we bring to the table as a four piece cover band is not having just one dedicated lead singer. Instead, we all take turns singing lead vocals throughout the sets. Having a female and three male lead singers enables us to perform a powerful combination of all the best high-energy Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Dance Funk, Alternative Rock, and danceable Classic/Pop Rock music from the 1960’s through today. We have something for everyone to enjoy. There are no “stars” or “egos” in our band. We feel that we are a unit and without each other, there would be no Exit Left.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question! While there are an enormous amount of fun spots in South Florida, as far as Miami goes, we’d definitely have to say Sunset Tavern/Deli Lane for weekday brunch/lunch and weekend live music, dancing and adult beverages, As far as casinos go, we’d have to make a stop at Casino Miami/Jai Alai. There’s a lot of history there, Las Vegas-style slot machines and electronic tables/gaming area with digital Blackjack, Craps and Roulette games. They also have live entertainment every weekend featuring some of South Florida’s top bands performing a variety of music ranging from Rock and Top 40, as well as Latin, Hip-Hop, Salsa, Reggaeton, Merengue, and Urban hits, Moving up the northeast coast we’d also make a stop at the world famous Square Grouper in Jupiter and/or Ft. PIerce. Both sister tiki bars have excellent food, waterfront views and a laid back island/beach like feeling. They have live music all week. From Solos/Duos during the day to full bands at night. Ken & Mikes in Miami Lakes has the BEST Italian food and pizza, Heading down the east coast of south Florida, we’d have to make a stop at Gilbert’s in Key Largo for some tasty fresh seafood, adult beverages and live music. We’d end out southern coast tour of Florida at the historical Sloppy Joe’s in Key West for people watching, live entertainment/bands, snacks &adult beverages.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and bandmates! We couldn’t have a tight, close knit and successful band without them. Bands are like family. You spend a lot of time together rehearsing, hanging out, and performing together. Andrew “Drew” Ramirez, my husband is also the Co-Owner, Manager, Lead Guitarist, Vocalist and Sound Guy. He is super dedicated to his craft and delivers electrifying lead guitar and lead vocals for our band, Carson Martin, our drummer and also one of our lead vocalists provides a tight and energetic drum beat and also provides lead vocals. Our bass player, Ted O’Connell brings solid and groovy bass guitar licks. He also provides lead vocals to the mix of tunes we perform throughout South Florida.
