We had the good fortune of connecting with Supa Dave In The Mix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Supa Dave In The Mix, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a DJ and Emcee for the last 20 years working in Radio, TV, Nightclubs, and events, my passion has always been about entertaining people and creating memorable experiences. After years of working for other companies, I felt that I could create a business that better aligned with my values and allowed me to offer a more personalized experience to my clients. I wanted to create a company that provided a high level of service, customized solutions, and a unique style of entertainment that would stand out in the industry.

Moreover, starting my own business has given me the freedom to be more creative and experiment with new ideas, allowing me to continuously improve and grow. I also wanted to be able to build a team of like-minded individuals who shared my passion and dedication for creating unforgettable events. Hopefully i will be able to do that in the near future. Overall, my thought process behind starting my own business was to create something that reflected my personal brand, values, and vision for the future of high energy entertainment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
“When it comes to my work, I believe that one of my greatest attributes is my willingness to take risks and not be afraid of making a fool of myself. I am not afraid to dive into something new and work hard at my craft until I master it. I firmly believe that no one is good at anything in the beginning, but if you truly love what you do and are willing to put in the time and effort, you can become great at it. I have never shied away from hard work or failure, and that mindset has helped me to achieve success as a DJ, emcee, and television host.”

As for how I got to where I am today, it certainly wasn’t easy. I had to work hard and face several challenges along the way. However, I never let those challenges stop me from pursuing my goals.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is the importance of taking baby steps in the right direction. Even if I didn’t know exactly what to do, I never said no to the next opportunity. I knew I would figure it out on the job because I had the drive and passion to learn. I never stopped being a student, and always picked up what I could from the people around me. The more things I learned, the better I became in the business.

In terms of my brand and story, I want the world to know that I’m someone who is truly passionate about what I do. I believe that passion is what drives success, and I’m committed to using my skills and experience to make a positive impact in the world. Whether I’m hosting an event, producing a show, or DJing at a concert, my goal is always to create an unforgettable experience for the audience.

Thank you again for the opportunity to share my story. I hope it serves as an inspiration for others to pursue their passions and overcome the challenges they may face along the way.

I have always loved music since I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with the ability to sing, and my family was too poor for music lessons with any instruments, so I would just listen to my Walkman all day and vibe to the sounds. I grew up Jehovah’s Witness so I wasn’t allowed to listen to worldly music. Having a Walkman was the best option because nobody really knew what I was listening to. I would dance around the house listening to HipHop, Disco, Salsa, Merengue, Disco, etc. I loved it all. I was hooked. When other kids would wake up on Saturday mornings at 6 am to watch cartoons, I would wake up to listen to Casey Kasem and his Top 40 show. I would never miss an episode. Later in life, I got into breakdancing, and I got more into the entertainment side of things. Eventually, when I went to Miami Dade College and FIU, I knew I wanted to be in entertainment, but I didn’t really have a nitch or the confidence to be an entertainer, so I got into Mass Communication and Marketing. One day we were doing a Panther Rage event and the host didn’t show up. So they asked who wanted to introduce the guest, and I said I would do it. Apparently it went really well and they asked me to host a couple more events. It turned out I had a knack for entertaining a crowd. That led me to reach out to the local college radio station Radiate 88. FM. So I decided to change my major to Radio & Television Broadcasting. Then I got an internship with Clear Channel communication. From intern I went to the street team, from there to afternoon producer, then to weekend radio host, then full-time afternoon host, then to TV, concerts, etc.

I later learned to DJ, and the rest is history. Baby steps in the right direction. Even if I didn’t know how to do something, I never said no to the next gig. I knew I would figure it out on the job, because I had the drive and passion to learn. I have never stopped being a student. Always try to pick up what you can from the people around you. The more things you learn, the better you will be in this business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I can’t really do that. Everyone is different. A good time is subjective and it’s essential to consider your friend’s interests and preferences when planning their visit. South Florida has a variety of activities to offer, including museums, beaches, hotels, comedy shows, Yacht parties, fishing, karaoke bars, hookah and cigar bars, domino tournaments, arcades, street festivals, and cultural events, in addition to clubs and restaurants.

As a DJ, I understand the importance of catering to the crowd and creating an experience that suits their preferences. Similarly, when planning an itinerary for a friend, it’s essential to keep their interests in mind and be flexible to ensure they have a memorable and enjoyable time in South Florida. There no wrong way to have a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“I would definitely like to give a shoutout to my family for their unwavering support. Additionally, I owe much of my success to the mentors and colleagues who have inspired and encouraged me throughout my career. I would like to specifically recognize DJ Boogie Down Dimas Martinez at Mega 94.9, DJ GQ at Y.1007, DJ Laz at Power 96.5, Wayne LeBush & Luisa Camargo Mariano at ESG Talent, The Seminole Hard Rock Guitar Casino, Seminole Classic Casino, Seminole Coconut Creek Casino, Telemundo, Zumi Oro at Univision via PMS Entertainment Worldwide, and my friends, my family, my life partner Paula, and my amazing son Santiago. Their guidance, advice, and support have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals and become the DJ, emcee, and television host I am today.”
