We had the good fortune of connecting with Suzy Schwartz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Suzy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
For me, it took a year away from work to truly understand the value of balance. During that time, I rediscovered my love for tennis and made it a priority in my life. Previously, my entire existence revolved around my clients and models needs, leaving me with no time for myself. But now, l’ve set boundaries and prioritize my own happiness and wellbeing. As l’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that life is short and it’s essential to live without stress. And as a result, I’ve never felt healthier or happier. The best part? My newfound balance hasn’t hindered my career one bit, in fact, I’m booking better jobs and working with more elevated brands than ever before. They key is to work smarter not harder!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a team we strive to help our models achieve their personal goals. I dedicate a significant amount of effort towards developing their portfolios and connecting them with the right photographers to ensure that they are recognized by brands that align with their career aspirations. This year has been incredibly busy for me. I manage a model exclusively who lives in LA  for the west coast and she works every day, between Revolve/Forward Reformation, Forever 21, to name a few. Locally I have been able to secure our models the most for major brands, in Fact Solid and Striped, Free People, and Skatie  just shot here and all of the models were from Next Miami. I am truly grateful for the success I have experienced in this career and have never been happier in my career while here at Next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The ultimate way to experience Miami is by boat. As a resident here I am  drawn to the beaches. The best days are boat days, I’d take then on a cruise up the river, stopping by Sea Spice for lunch  before heading out to sea. Boat excursions are the highlight of my days. Despite living here 24 years I never tire of the sun, sand, and water, so I’d make sure to visit the beach every day. One of the unique perks of Miami is the ability to dine outside all year long and my go to spots have water views, a few favorites are Ocean Grill at the Setai, Lido at the Standard and Smith And Wolinsky, But for Sushi Blue Ribbon is  a must try even though its not on the water. On cloudy days, I recommend lunch and shopping at Bal Harbor Shops, or visiting the Design District enjoying Rose’ all day at Sophia’s and tipsy shopping at Chanel;

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Erin Lucas is an amazing force in the industry. She has a reputation for flipping agencies and transforming them into powerhouses. I have had the pleasure of working alongside her for many years, taking over agencies that were doing nothing, and turning them into the best. She is passionate about empowering her team and equips them with necessary tools to succeed. We built stars together, she would show me a digital of a new face and in 2 weeks she’d have an amazing portfolio for me to go make the new face a star.
