We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanja Rose Toerk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanja Rose, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
For me there are two mottos that I stick to after years of experience. The following applies either:
1. You want it too bad, you screw it up. Wishful ideas and overconfidence come to fruition, that leads to failure.
2. If there are too many obstacles, it’s just not my path. On some of my journeys I’ve made the experience that the most seemingly obvious road is the one to take. If I take a closer look at some of the bigger obstacles, they may function as roadsigns.
My conclusion is that a way with always new hurdles should point me directions to correctly take the path that has been assigned for me.
And don’t forget, exceptions prove the rule.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First of all, only those who insert a coin will be able to pull a piece of chewing gum out of the machine. Only through persistent questioning and constant further development have I been able to acquire my expertise over the years. A really exciting experience was a part-time job in merchandising during my school days for a concert promoter. That opened up European tours for me with greats like Sting, Pink Floyd, Prince, just to name a few. Every station, challenge and expansion of an activity in depth have brought me to the point today that I have achieved a development peronally as well as professionally . My career which initially started as a patch that, after a while, has carefully been woven into a wonderful patchwork quilt. It might sound cliché but care and hard work do pay off. The more you expect from yourself, the less you can avoid having to do something for it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were many impressions and events that shaped me, but if I had to highlight someone special, I would always name my grandmother as probably the strongest influence that shaped my world view. In long conversations she kept opening me different perspectives, whereupon a burning curiosity in a vast variety of topics solidified in me.
