We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Ivanova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatiana, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
As a creator of a new direction in interior design, my end goal is to establish investment design as a recognized and respected field within the industry. I want to be known as a leading expert and innovator in this area, and to have successfully integrated the principles of investment design into the larger interior design community. Ultimately, I strive to have made a significant and meaningful impact on the field, and to have helped bring about positive changes in the way that interior spaces are designed and used for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would like to say that by my professional growth and success, I am showing that anything is possible in this world. I was born and raised in a small provincial town in northern Russia, and now I am a renowned interior designer, university professor, and creator of a new direction in design. Yes, I had to work hard to become known and recognized in my hometown, but I “grew out” of it. I wanted to make a global contribution to an industry that changes people’s lives, the industry of “interior design”. Was it hard? Of course, sometimes I just wanted to give up, but I believed in myself and I succeeded. I see my mission as creating something global in the world, and I am very close to achieving my goal. “Investment Interior Design” is a direction that I have been able to form as a result of many years of work. Now, I am working on creating formulas for project “liquidity” calculations and justification.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
“Definitely Italy, Milan – the center of design and fashion. My friends are also fans of beauty and art, so we’ll visit all the top showrooms in the city, both furniture and fashion boutiques with designer clothing. Lunch in trendy restaurants, and dinners in trattorias. Walking around the beautiful streets, wine, cheese, lively conversations with Italian partners. And on weekends, we’ll go to Venice – my second Italian love. I think that’s enough talking about Italy, let’s go there… by the way, the biggest international furniture and design fair, Salone del Mobile, is held in Milan, we’ll visit that as well.”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to say that the professional level I have currently is a result of both my personal efforts and the contributions of education, experience, and other people. Of course, much of what I have achieved is thanks to my parents, as it is their upbringing that instilled leadership qualities and determination in me. Then, my education, I am constantly learning. Russia, Italy, America – education through the knowledge of culture and people’s lives. And I want to mention Dr. Thelma Lazo-Flores who believed in me and helped me adapt and understand the American design industry. And as a result, already being an American specialist, I received two international awards in the design industry.
