We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Mason and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by people. I know that is strange to say but what some people fail to realize is that as people change so do processes, businesses and interactions. You have to be able to adapt to what inspires you and that all starts with understanding what motivates you. I do what I love because of the business owners that I work with. They tend to have the common goal of success but when you break that down how you get to success is through people. Whether that is through your customer base or different networking opportunities people are the base to the longevity and success of a business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Edify apart from our competitors is our ability to provide a well rounded service. So not only do we assist with the start of a business but we also provide different avenues to create growth and longevity for the business. I always believed in building relationships no matter if they were a client of mine or not. I feel as if every opportunity is an opportunity for someone to learn something new. For example as I would find different business articles I would provide them to current and previous clients so that they can understand the foundational aspects involved of running a business properly. I have learned a lot of lessons and one is that you can’t do everything by yourself. Building partnerships and fostering different relationships within your network will allow for you to grow your business not only within the selected business field but also into new fields that you weren’t originally thinking about. Sometimes as business owners being the CEO, HR and marketing specialist can drain you and take away your ability to be able to get your creative juices flowing. Never feel afraid to hire interns or contract out your needed services to support another business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh I love this question. So in Baltimore there’s a lot of great places to eat with unique dishes. One of the first places I would take them is to go down to the Baltimore harbor and walk around and listen to music. During this time I would also stop for a hot apple cider from my favorite Irish pub. On the following day I would take them to my favorite restaurant called Hook and Reel and have an amazing seafood boil bag. During the day If it was one of my outdoorsy friends I would take them to bike ride on one of the trails in the park nearest my house. With me being located in Maryland of course we are so close to Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey. I would also use it as an opportunity to visit different wineries in Delaware and New Jersey and of course find our way to Philadelphia for a Philly cheesesteak.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several individuals that deserve recognition for the success of where I am today. First off I will start with the foundation that my family provided me through the push for my increase in knowledge through education and the drive of being a strong independent woman. While working on my bachelors degree at Hampton University they provided me with courage and drive needed to understand what it means to be a successful business woman. Upon the creation of my business I struggled with business names. I would always bounce ideas off my friends which is how the name Edify was created. I also have to thank those individuals that guided me through this transition from college graduate to entrepreneur. Their has been a lot of important pieces in my life that have assisted with my growth. I thank them all because I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
