We had the good fortune of connecting with Tennille Griffith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tennille, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Playing it safe never really got me anywhere to be honest, lol. Life had a funny way of making me move when I started to settle… not much comes from being in a place of comfort . It’s like the best things come when you step out of your comfort zone and just go for it. If I never took a risk I wouldn’t even be in this field doing makeup. I’m all for risk, but still risks that make sense , sensible risks.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a makeup artist, from Barbados,I’ve been doing makeup for the last 10 years. I love traditional make up, special effects, body painting/ air brushing anything like that, I’m also self taught, The traditional makeup I’ve done 1 or 2 classes, but the special effects and body painting I do is all self taught.I definitely pride myself in being a very versatile makeup artist. I like to say I’m a fairly well rounded artist. . It took lots of hitting rock bottom, and tons of self belief to get where I am. It wasn’t the easiest either, as I mentioned I’m from Barbados and there aren’t any makeup institutions here that would really help develop your craft. So you really have to want it , sacrifice a lot , put in lots of work, lots of trial and error. I wouldn’t really say I’ve overcome the challenges, because the challenges are still very much there, I just adjust the way I see the challenges and make them work for me instead. I’ve learnt that once you really want something and you really focus and put your mind to it, you can really achieve anything, My work is just really raw talent, that needs to be harnessed a little.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m really a sucker from brunch and dinners. We have some really nice brunch spots in Barbados so I’d definitely do that….dinner, maybe some sushi and then maybe hit up one of the clubs on the West Coast.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and sister for sure. All my girls they know who they are , they are forever gassing me, lol.
