We had the good fortune of connecting with Thea D. Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thea D., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was appointed by my husband Norman, who saw me as a business woman perfect for his property management division. I fell face first into managing over 150 single family homes all under the Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) government program. Surprisingly, I was in love with the business!! I remained in the profession acquiring a license as an agent in 3 states, serving as a tenant consultant, property manager, and even working for a housing authority as a landlord liaison.
After being in the real estate business for almost 2 decades serving communities in different capacities; landlord, investor, real estate agent(3 different states), property manager, auction manager, just to name a few; I noticed there was a lack of women especially moms in the in the game of investing. In the beginning, there are specific steps a woman must do to start a journey of becoming a landlord with guaranteed rental income. I have designed a specific step by step program that gives all the ins and outs of how to scout properties, dozens of ways of financing, how to vet and find amazing tenants and also how to use the Section 8 program
I believe it is in a Mother’s DNA to build their families financial wealth. Born talents in management and investments, women make the world go round, especially the financial industry. As generational wealth builders, the time is now to plan & execute financial freedom of our great-grandchildren.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
You know, I never thought of myself as a creative before. Until my now productivity coach told me just because you don’t create like others, doesn’t mean you’re not creative.
I’ve learned to take my passion for cheerleading, women’s empowerment, women’s financial freedom and security and shape it into a beautiful story. I speak truth with the intention to shock someone into reality. As women, we have a tendency to want to live in an alternate universe called…”He got it!” On this planet someone else is creating, drawing, sheltering, protecting our wants, needs, desires and dreams. And with it comes us asking for permission to actually pursue our desires, wants and dreams. And when access is denied by the outside controller we are shocked and can’t believe “they” didn’t support your heart’s desires.
I say what other women dare not. I speak power into women’s own capabilities to be successful, life designers, and creators and not asking a damn soul for their permission to walk in their power. Writing your own financial story according to your life’s plans is the #1 way for women to craft their own futures and their future great grandchildren. Women are the #1 buyers of everything, or they are the #1 reason a man buys it. So I speak to women thinking beyond this life and the next, learning the #1 way to wealth through real estate and teaching the generations after them. Breaking generational habits of brokeness, broken homes, and broken hearts. There is no reason our destiny’s should be designed by anyone else but ourselves. When it is not, we are failing ourselves and our offsprings.
This road has been a rough almost 2 decades, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Aging is a beautiful process that teaches us lessons beyond our physical understanding but definitely to our mental capability.
“Change is messy and I’m here for it.” –Toni Jones
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You know what, for my neck of the woods it’s very laid back and chill. This is the type vibe to relax and watch the sunset. Journaling your thoughts while watching the waves and gorgeous skies while having your moving coffee.
I’m an extravert and can talk to anyone…..More so before the virus of course. So you would catch me and my family at the Movies on the Lawn hosted by Mercato shopping mall. It’s a beautiful mall filled with a variety of shops, movie theater, art gallery, night clubs, elegant restaurants and even my favorite place there….Whole Foods!
I like to meet up with my girlfriend Sandra there for this awesome cold coffee called Cinnamon Toast Crunch…yep, the cereal. With actual pieces of the cereal in it…..delicious.
I love our movie theaters Paragon. It’s right off the beach strip, the seats recline perfectly and they have the best damn popcorn in the city hands down. My girlfriends and I like to meet up there for a late night movie and cocktail after we put the family to bed and it’s our time to relax!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The 2018-2020 was a challenging time for my entire family. I want to shoutout to all my friends, acquaintances, family, homeschool moms/sistas, prayers, donations, gifts, hugs and well wishes. Your love, support and belief that we would make it through is exactly what allowed us to see the light out of the darkness. I love each and every one of you.
