We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Palma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is such a subjective thing. And it look different for each person. Depending on the season of life you’re in, balance will look different, too.
Balance changed for me when I became a mom. I had a lot more free time and extra hours to work on my business. So if I decided to wait a bit longer to get a project done, it was ok because I knew I could catch up easily. Now as a work from home mom, my time has to be very well thought out.
Before I thought there was such a thing as perfect balance and that I could do all and be all. But now, I see that it really depends on the season of life you’re in and how your priorities change over time. There’s no such thing as perfect balance. There will be days when work has to be at the top of my list, and other times I have to say no to extra hours in front of the computer because I want to and need to be with my family.
At the end of the day, balance will be what really matters to you as an individual.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first started Styld by Grace, I was looking for an outlet to create without the pressure of reaching the highest level of success.
I was yearning to create from a place of rest and not of constant pressure.
In the design world, performance is EVERYTHING. You have to be the best. You have to have the *best* ideas, the *best* work ethic, the *best* designs, the *best* resume, the *best* words.
And that’s when I had a thought…
Where in all of that is there grace?
The striving, the unhealthy competition, the lack of work/life balance, was draining at best and sucking away at my soul at worst.
I never started this with the idea of it becoming more than a hobby or a fun side project. But as the years went on, I saw that the people around me really resonated with my art, with the purpose behind it, and with its message. And I decided to take it a step further and turn into a brand and business.
At the end of the day, I truly believe this is a God dream. He planted it in my heart. To stop striving and start creating and living at the rhythm of His grace. That all who come here are welcome and are inspired to live in the style of grace.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, as an Orlando resident, I would take them to a few places. The first place would be, obviously, DISNEY WORLD. I would take them on a stroll down main street, stop to take a picture in front of the castle, pick up some popcorn, ride Big Thunder Mountain, and on our way out, stop at the Emporium to buy a pair of Minnie ears.
I’d also take them to Winter Park’s Central park and get Italian food from my favorite restaurant, Panulos.
Lastly, I’d take them to get Gelati at Jeremiah’s. It is THE BEST!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The one person that never really gets any recognition for the success of Styld by Grace is my husband, Edward. He is my number one supporter and encourager. When I relaunched my brand last summer, he took over the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of our son, and let me focus on my work. That meant the world to me! I really couldn’t do what I’ve been called to do without him.
