We had the good fortune of connecting with TIKISHA MILLS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TIKISHA, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Freedom has always been the goal and I’ve worked so hard for two decades for others as an employee why not worked hard for myself and get myself employees.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a Radio Personality since 2016 and DJ since 2019. Early on I was in the health care field as a CNA, LPN, then Registered Nurse which I love and still work as a contract nurse currently. As much as I love nursing which I shaped me to deal with multiple personalities which is a key skill needed in the entertainment entrepreneural industry. I wanted more to feed my creative appetite, I awlays had a big personality and that’s where my Radio career started which led to me DJing as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Growing up in NYC, Queens specifically you definitely can tour the entire city in one week with a variety of diversity which NYC is known for I’m originally from Trinidad so I would take you to Trinidad Roti shop on Rockaway Blvd in South Jamaica Queens to get doubles or bake and shark for breakfast, then we would head out to Manhattan for the day we would most definitely take the train because nothing beats an NYC train traveling experience lol pure entertainment. Once in the city there’s an array of things to however I love museums lots to see and learn MOMA is great, Museum of sex is another cool adult experience to learn nothing overly raunchy nor inappropriate. Then I would get lunch at Carmines I love Italian food and they give big portions for a good price and can walk off some calories by walking around Times Square. Then in the evening night time can go to Brooklyn or Queens for the Caribbean experience at a Soca event ( music from Trinidad) or a dancehall party which I love to attend because the vibes are always on point. For the week can definitely catch a Knick game at MSG great experience as well, Queens Hall of Science, Brooklyn Museum, live open mic shows are in every borough. The thing about New York it literally is the city that never sleeps there’s always something to do and if you’re rolling with me you can come hang out with me at my radio show Tiki Fever Show live at 99.9FM Triple nine HD for the Caribbean Urban vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
