We had the good fortune of connecting with Tilly and Amanda Trull and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tilly and Amanda, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
We have both been super creative and into art our whole lives. The idea for Treasure Trulls stemmed from the love of music and love of festivals. We would spend so much time planning and preparing outfits for events, and always got so many complements for our creativity.
We also are huge Thrifters, we always loved finding such unique pieces and upcycling them.
We started our passion project right before the pandemic, We would just create pieces for ourselves. But throughout quarantine we had a lot more time to learn more skills and techniques. It started with our friends purchasing pieces and our brand has just grown from there.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone wearing one of your pieces that you have created. It gives us more drive to create more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are a an upcycled and handmade fashion brand. Our main mission is to steer people away from the fast fashion industry. Globally we produce 13 million tons of textile waste each year. Almost all of that could be reused or recycled. We thrift and accept donations of unwanted clothes and then upcycle them. Bringing new life and creating one of kind unique clothing for men and women. This process takes a lot of time sourcing materials but we find what we do so rewarding.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely spend most of our days doing our favorite activity; thrifting. Miami has so many amazing thrift stores and you never know what kind of treasures you are going to find. If we aren’t thrifting then we would be getting some sun at the beach or walking around Wynwood. Wynwood is our favorite of Miami. We love to walk around and look at all murals, grab coffee at Panther Coffee, pizza at Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza and drinks at Gramps. As far as nightlife goes, you can find us on the dance floor wherever they have live music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are a creative sister duo. We are sister in laws married to brothers. We would love to give a huge shoutout to our husbands, Dan Trull and Will Trull for all the love and support they have given us through this creative journey. Also our other sister in law Ali Frazier, who recently moved to Gainesville but was a big part in creation of Treasure Trulls.
We get most of our inspiration from the music festival fashion scene. We love colorful, unique and over the top looks. Music festivals allow people to express themselves and dress how they normally wouldn’t in their everyday lives.
