We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Kravitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have always maintained the mindset that “the worst that could happen is nothing happens.” I think fear of rejection or failure are the only things holding people back from taking risks. The decision to take a risk feels empowering if we flip that around and ask “what happens WHEN I succeed?” I am not scared of being turned down or failing and that is what propels my success. Mindset is everything. We miss 100% of the shots that we don’t take!
For example, when I had a YouTube channel for interviewing musicians in high school, I requested interviews with massive artists, even if it seemed too far out of reach. The worst-case scenario is that my email gets ignored or declined. The best-case scenario is that I get the interview. That is how I landed interviews with Ariana Grande and Imagine Dragons when I was 15 years old…because I tried.

Whoa That’s Fresh PR is a full-service Marketing and PR agency based in Seattle, Orlando, Philly, and Queens. WTF specializes in custom publicity campaigns tailored to the needs of the client with services ranging from traditional PR to artist development, social media management, and album campaigns. We specialize in music publicity and have also collaborated with festivals, brands, podcasts, and nonprofit organizations.
WTF Publicity was founded on a passion for supporting independent artists and organizations in their first steps of growth. Unlike other companies, every single campaign is individually crafted and personalized hand-in-hand with the artist’s goals and vision. We do an in-depth questionnaire at the start of a campaign and meticulously review it before we even lift a finger to start pitching. We work with clients at all levels from your average local coffee shop singer to A-list celebrities.
The company is a little over one year old and we have expanded exponentially from three publicists to a team of 10+ talented individuals and nearly 100 clients throughout the lifetime of the company. We’ve achieved it through quality work and word-of-mouth, which is something we’re really proud of. That is the biggest lesson I’ve learned – do great work with integrity and be a good person that people love to work with – that will speak for itself. That has been my motto throughout my career.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, being in Orlando, FL means there are endless options for explorations. Disney World is a no-brainer and should be an essential stop for anyone visiting the city. Beyond the touristy spots, there are a lot of brilliant local gems too.
Easy Luck Coffee is my favorite coffee shop that turns into a beer and wine bar in the evening. It is locally owned and many of the employees are close-knit with the music scene too. Music and coffee shops go hand-in-hand! I also think Wekiva Springs is a must-see spot for somewhere quiet to see the beautiful natural sights of Central Florida. I am vegan and my favorite food spot is undoubtedly Winter Park Biscuit Company. It’s owned and operated by Mary Mattern, who used to be a personal chef for musicians like Travis Barker and Ellie Goulding. They do the best vegan chicken sandwiches on earth!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have several people to thank for helping me grow. First and foremost, my mother is the reason I have such a positive mindset and so much ambition in my career. She filmed hundreds of interviews for me, picked me up from school early to attend shows, took me to concerts, and encouraged me to pursue my music blog. Every step of the way, she has been there.
Thank you to Kevin Lyman and the entire Vans Warped Tour crew for bringing me on the tour from 2015-2018. Kevin took me under his wing and gave me some tough love during my years on the tour. His belief in me was one of the most meaningful connections I made in the music industry. I have nothing but respect, admiration, and gratitude for the experiences and lessons from those years. I wouldn’t be who I am without them!
Thank you to Steph Maksimow and the Whoa That’s Fresh PR team for taking a chance on me in a new chapter of my career as a music publicist. Steph hired me when I had zero PR experience but believed in my knowledge of the industry and journalism. WTF PR’s approach to the job is so creative, hands-on, and inspiring. It’s an absolute joy to learn and grow with them!
