We had the good fortune of connecting with Ely Honore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ely, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Having true autonomy and independence has always been something that appealed to me. I’ve been fortunate to have great bosses and working relationships in the past, however I’m really independent and enjoy doing things “my way” starting my own business allowed me certain creative and operational freedoms I would never have while working for someone else.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a cardio boxing studio. Boxing has been a major part of my life since I was in my early teens. I wanted to bring high level box technique to average everyday people looking for an alternative to the regular gym. Most gym’s in this space do not place any emphasis on actual technique and mostly focus on the workouts. At my studio (Box Iq) both the quality of the workout and the technical knowledge being taught are really important. We’ve only been open a few month and were finally starting to grow but I’m really proud of the culture thats being established at BoxIQ. High level training for anyone in a judgement free environment. It has not been easy at all but an amazing learning experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a great support system to help fill in knowledge gaps that I have in the areas of marketing, finance and just overall operational structure. I started training people 10 years ago in the park while I was living at my parents house, when I purchased my own home I converted my garage into a small gym which was a huge upgrade for me, opening up my own studio has been the ultimate step-up from the park days but there are so many things I didn’t know/expect but i’ve been able to learn from others. The thing I want people to know about our brand is that its for everyone Box-Iq represents become not only proficient but actually good at something and being able to approach it intelligently.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s a little cliche but I love the beach, you cant beat being near water. There’s tons of cool spots to eat while kicking back and relaxing at the beach and people watching.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give my parents all the credit for any success that I’ve achieved. They have always been supportive and encouraging, I was never allowed to cut corners as a kid and to this day I give max effort for all projects. Even though my parents aren’t business owners they’ve been able to give me so many transferable skills and insights that have helped me tremendously in my business.
