We had the good fortune of connecting with Trina Slade-burks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trina, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from New York City. Born in Harlem & raised in the Bronx. Moved to Palm Beach County 33 years ago when I got married. Though my mother passed away when I was 9 years old, she along with several other family members were all artists. My father, a non-creative, encouraged me both academically and creatively. He never discouraged the role that art played in my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a left brained artist affords me to be a creative soul with a business mind. Problem solving allows me to make quick decisions and strategize things that the average artist or businessperson may not think about.

Working in corporate America as well as in the non-profit sector helped me get to where I am now. My dad, my husband and many associates I have met along the journey are just some of the people who guided me in the right direction.
Being a creative is never easy. Separating the artistic side and the business side sometimes is the biggest challenge. Logic vs emotion is the battle.

I am always willing to share information with other artists so they can grow their legacy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will start at the north end of Palm Beach County. Head to my husband’s studio, Zero Empty Spaces in Palm Beach Gardens. This studio and gallery space has over 22 different artists. Then for lunch I would take them to the River House to sit by the water. This would be a great place to have a nice meal and chat. Driving South we would go to the Norton Museum of Art and check out the current exhibition on exhibit. Not far away we’d go to The Peach, which we can grab a margarita at El Segundo and walk around to the different studios. Two of the studios are occupied by two friends and fellow board members of mine of the No More Starving Artists Foundation, Craig McInnis and Scott Jeffries. Our last stop would be going to Northwood Village to Pétanque for food, drink, and live music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In 1992, my husband & I co-founded what is now known as ATB Fine Art Group Inc. Our company is an art-based consulting firm that creates, sells, promotes, and educates art of different disciplines nationally. This includes visual, graphic, publishing, performing and literary arts. Because of this company, many opportunities for other creatives have happened and flourished.
