We had the good fortune of connecting with Val Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Val, how do you think about risk?
I believe in taking risks and going for it. Taking risks has played a major role in my life, it has opened many doors for me in the industry. You have to step out on faith and believe in yourself at all times.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always loved fashion and the arts so I created a brand that would allow me to do all the things I love doing in the fashion industry. retired from Corrections in 2010 then I started my business in 2012. I wanted my own business so I created my brand “Looks To Envy” LLC . I’m a Stylist, and Fashion blogger. I can style anyone for all occasions. Style is just embedded in me I feel like you’re born with style it can’t be bought. My brand empowers women & supports other businesses. Building a brand is never easy it requires alot of work, time, money and networking. I’m always busy, I recently just came out of retirement and I’m currently working as Video Repair representative at Spectrum while building another brand I created “Brows To Envy” Microblading Technician/Brow Stylist I feel it’s important in this day and age to have multiple streams of income. Being an Entrepreneur is also about building and creating different avenues for growth.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love Buffalo, Ny. I was born/raised here we have the best food, live music and football team of course. Some of my favorite places to eat wings at is Gabriel’s gate and Anchor bar. I love hanging out at Helium Comedy club, and listening to live music at the Serenity Calmplex Outdoor Lounge . Things to check out here would be the Frank Lloyd Wright house & the Museum. There’s also lots of Cultural street festivals in the summer, and another cool place to check out is Niagara River works on the water downtown. There’s also alot of really good soul food places here in Buffalo.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would really like to give my shoutout to my Mother who was a Registered Nurse. She taught me good morals/values, had great style and personality(she was from Paducah Ky). She raised me to be the woman I’ve become today. She gave me the tenacity, strength & resilience to keep striving in life and pushing forward towards your goals. I know she would be so proud of me.
