We had the good fortune of connecting with VIBES Lifestyle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi VIBES, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At my core, I have always been an entrepreneur. I found ways to make my own income as a small child and started my savings account very early in life. I had an affinity for finding innovative ways to maximize the potential of any situation. I knew that jobs were just a means to an end, and even though I graduated with a University degree, it didn’t seem like it was a necessity as much as an experience. I know that structure in many senses can be a great benefit, but it can also be quite limiting.
I love freedom. I appreciate being my own boss and deciding how I am going to utilize my time and energy. In previous positions, my talent and potential were not truly realized. I’ve faced a lot of jealousy, resentment, adversity and sabotage when having to work for and with others. This only solidified my desire to remain an island when it comes to business. I aspire to always be the architect of my reality.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
SABALI is the fine art that my partner and I create collaboratively. We are inspired by one another as well as nature and ancient cultures. SABALI means “Patience” in the Bambara dialect from the Mali region of Africa. Reminding us to have patience in all aspects of life, especially when creating from our imaginations.
We sculpt porcelain ceramics, we paint with acrylics, and we design with natural elements. One of our series is called “Poetic Porcelain Collection” and each piece has an inspired poem written by me that accompanies the sculpture.. We also have a series called “Ode To Song” that is inspired by the creations of the ancient Song Dynasty of China.
Being an artist is never easy, because as a highly creative multipotentialite, it can be very difficult to shift from the creative process to the business aspects. It’s natural to become a hermit to an extent, because artists mainly live in their heads, so going outside of that zone and interacting with others can be very challenging.
I have showcased my art at The Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Downtown Baltimore, MD, the Cynthia Ivey Gallery in Atlanta, GA, La Marsa Gallery in Fells Point, MD, Prado Gallery in West Palm Beach, FL, Royal Poinciana Plaza on Palm Beach Island, FL while being honored for Women’s Day. SABALI was recently featured in Palm Beach Illustrated Magazine, and so much more. I am very grateful to those who have an appreciation for the art that we bring to this world.
Each day presents new and different challenges, so it’s important to always take a step back and remember to not get caught up in it all. We love drinking tea for this reason, which has also become a part of our brand, because we see tea as peace. When we make tea and drink tea, we slow down and take life at a more steady and calculated pace. That is how ART OF CHA was born. As Artists, we appreciate the Art of each thing we do. “Cha” means “Tea” in Chinese, and Tea Culture dates back over 5000 years. The traditional Gong Fu Cha Tea Ceremony is a ritual that involves making the perfect cup of tea. The process itself is very beautiful, and this inspires some of the art that we create, so we love to share its story with others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would love to take a friend on a tour of this area, and we would start with brunch at Banter Restaurant inside Canopy Hotel. Then we would check out all of the beauty that graces Palm Beach Island! We would stroll down Worth Avenue and stop by Piccolo Gelato for a treat. We would check out some of the art and shops that line the walkways all the way to the clocktower, and of course we would have to enjoy the beach for a bit!
After the beach, we would head over to Royal Poinciana Plaza and have a refresher at Celis Produce, since they have delicious smoothies. We would also visit a few of the art galleries and boutiques there, before hopping over to The Society of The Four Arts Sculpture Garden. We would take photos as we admired the gorgeous garden. Then we would breeze over to The Square in Downtown West Palm Beach. I would show them our space at The Garden Shoppe where we have our VIBES Lifestyle display of tea + lifestyle goodies. We would have a nice lunch at Planta because they have delicious vegan options.
We would browse around Restoration Hardware and RH Rooftop because the place is so amazing, and we may just want to have a glass of champagne to compliment the impeccable rooftop view.
It would be fabulous to see some more art at The Norton and to wind down the day we would pop into Composition Coffee House to enjoy a lovely cup of tea and the relaxed atmosphere.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize the late, well-renowned author Anne Rice for her contribution to my imagination. She recently passed on, and it hurt me deeply because her books have always spoken to my heart and soul on a very deep level. She inspired me to want to continue growing as a writer and creative. I love creating content and bringing images to life via the written word.
I would also like to pay homage to my grandmother, I miss her so much! She was a light in my life, and she was a prime example of a lady and a boss! She was always a walking fashion statement, always dressed to the nines. She was a highly organized perfectionist, and very financially savvy as well. I also adored the children’s books she wrote, and that is what inspired a series that I have been working on. I truly admired her for all that she was and she will always be a fond memory.
