Meet Waleska Nomura

We had the good fortune of connecting with Waleska Nomura and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Waleska, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started doing traditional graffiti letters in 1997. In 2004 I started the project “Spreading the Love and Positive Energies to the World” in which I spread this message through my art. And this has been motivating me to keep believing in my art and it motivates me to keep painting.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The project that I’m most proud of is my project “Spreading the Love and Positive Energies to the World “. I spread this message painting lots of Hearts and very colourful work, with a vibrant energy and this makes my work different. And this project has been going on for more than 20 years, so it wasn’t easy but it was a lot of fun. What I learned through all of those years being an artist is that you need to keep believing in yourself, put a lot of work and do everything with Love and Respect. And not forget to have fun, otherwise what’s the point?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Glastonbury Festival in England, where I work doing live paintings. So I could paint and enjoy my friends and see lots of the best bands in the World and have lots of fun together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
None gets there by themselves. I have many people that have helped and still help me even now. I’d like to thank my husband Adam Neate, he is my partner for life, he has been supporting my work since the day I met him. Also, thank my brother Binho which got me started doing graffiti. Thank you Joe Risolia,,an amazing guy that has been doing a lot for the art scene and he has been helping me a lot with my projects. Thank you Baixo Ribeiro , a curator and gallerist from Choque Cultural Gallery . Olivia Connelly she has been my galerist in London. Ryan thank you so much for helping me to make that amazing Print. Anselmo, Lee and Alicia for all the cool projects in London. Thank you Shanghai-La Crew for the amazing times at Glastonbury Festival. My friends Carol from Miami and my friend Carol from London that have been helping me to carry my materials, keep me company while I’m painting and being amazing friends. My friend Milo that helped me with my heart canvases so I could keep spreading the love… I could stay here mentioning a lot of people… I’m so thankful to have met so many amazing people people that have been supporting my work, friends, collectors…. Thank you so much everybody! Without you guys i wouldn’t have spread love in so many places!
