We had the good fortune of connecting with Wesley Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wesley, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the early success of Brand Faith Ruby is simply consistency, as an up and coming entrepreneur it’s vital you find a way and/or ways to make people believe in you by your actions, continuing to push yourself to its limits while you document your journey along the way. This allows your supporters to grow with you and your brand which ultimately leads people to feel connected and apart of something they believe in.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What’s sets me and this brand apart from others is the creativity, early on in my life I never had dreams of being a designer or owning my own clothing brand. This was more of destiny. If you were to ask me 10-15 years ago when it was a struggle to even get new school clothes if I would be here today I’d probably tell you NO not at all. I truly believe my drive to be successful stem from what I couldn’t have as a child, my parents couldn’t afford the new jordans and the name brand clothes all the time so I had to settle for the next best thing. After so many times of gettin hand me down clothes and gettin a few shoes here and there I learned how to take care of my stuff so that over time it would accumulate into a collection of some sort. As soon as I was old enough to earn my own money that’s what I used to capitalize on my early growing addiction to fashion mainly sneakers & transitioned into more clothing as I got closer to finishing High School. I tried to work regular jobs and one things for certain I found myself spending most of what I slaved 40 hours a week for in the mall at all these expensive stores and trying to buy all the new jordans that came out at any cost. I damn near went broke got behind on bills and that was the turning point that’s when I knew I had to figure out a solution to my addiction to fashion. Why not start my own brand ? Ever since I asked myself that simple question my whole life changed. I planned to create and customize my own clothes and make them affordable enough for the people who can’t get designer to be able to purchase and not break the bank. I didn’t know where to start, no mentor, no investors nothing I was just creative and a fast learner. I taught myself how to hand sew, then I taught myself how to sew on a sewing machine, YouTube became my college anything I wanted to know or need to know I used that engine as a crutch to help me get where I am today and I’m still learning and taking risk to create opportunity not only for myself and the brand but for others around me. I want the world to know we are here ! WE ARE BRAND FAITH RUBY..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well we are from NYC, haven’t really visited Miami much I know south beach is trendy clubs, restaurants, beach but if you guys come to NYC it’s also many different things to do and places to go to enjoy yourself. Edge NYC located in Manhattan NY is a dope experience especially if you have a significant other. Overall so many restaurants to choose from steakhouses to seafood for example my favorite spot is cabana which is located in forest hills in the borough of Queens NY. It’s so many art museums as well which is the ultimate relaxation time. A bunch of shopping malls such as Roosevelt field mall and famous shopping strips such as up in Harlem on 125th street just to name a few.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, there are a few people that play a vital role in the success behind the scenes and I’ll start with my little sister Faith which the brand was partially named after. Also I can’t forget my mom, my number one fan, the mouth piece for the brand in regards to networking. My two brand ambassadors Chris and Sha, these two guys been pushing me from the start all the group chats and late night facetime calls contemplating on what’s next. Lastly, the biggest inspiration behind brand is my grandmother Ruby Kelly who passed away some years back ( may she continue to Rest In Peace, I know she’s watching proud) I’m doing this for her and the family break that generational curse and replace it with some wealth that can be here long after I’m gone.
