We had the good fortune of connecting with Xavier Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xavier, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Well I’m from the Liberty City part of Miami. As you know my business is called “5iveclothing” the “5ive” is a park in liberty called Charles Hadley Park. That’s where I grew up I learned a lot there I played sports from football to basketball. I also attended elementary in middle school right next to the park so since a very a young age I was on “5ive”. As far as my upbringing in our neighborhood it’s very tough and rare for people to be financially successful. Growing up in our poverty stricken neighborhood it’s very tough it’s a lot violence and crime in our neighborhood and it’s either you succumb to the street life or you overcome which the majority of the kids including myself at point succumb to our unfortunate circumstances. My upbringing in my neighborhood taught me perseverance. Without perseverance in our neighborhood it’s almost a guarantee you will become a statistic. I persevered and made something out of myself after I had fell deep into the street life. I lost a lot of my close childhood friends growing up and I didn’t see a way I dropped out of high school I missed an entire year it almost felt impossible that I would graduate but I knew I didn’t want to fall victim to our neighborhood circumstances so I tightened up and did what I had to do I graduated on time and ended up going off to college and I was able to do that because I aquas perseverance which is something I learned growing up on the “5ive” that never give up mentality. I now apply those same methods and sayings to my business today no matter how rough or tough business may seem I will never give up and I will always work hard no matter how bad or how good things are going with my business. Perseverance helped shape who I am today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well my business is different from everyone else’s as far as Miami simply because we provide clothes that everybody can appreciate no matter your age gender or race out clothes and logos are universal. I’m proud of the facts that I’m able to make this clothing brand into my lifestyle everywhere I go go people bring up my brand which really makes me happy and proud. It shows that all the work I put in is being recognized by the public. To get to where I’m at I just kept grinding which brought me here. I never stopped I work everyday on my business long days and long nights to build my brand up build up customers loyal customers and new customers. It wasn’t easy at all I feel like the hardest part was being different coming up with ideas that would set me apart from the rest of the clothings brands in South Florida. Since having my business the lesson I took heed to the most was saving. Learning to save my money and how to properly separate my business money from my spending money was a huge lesson which took me time to understand and execute. I want the world to know that you can do no matter what your going through physically, mentally or emotionally you can persevere. Having a business is tough work but, it’s not impossible my brand is a upcoming brand and we will be one of the most popular brands coming out of Florida.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Museum Of Illusions. It’s a great spot down in wynwood plus once where done we can chill and enjoy all the art in Wynwood also, while we’re there for food we would go to House Of Mac which is one of my favorite places to eat in the city. I would also suggest bayside it’s tons of things to do there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hello, i would loveeee to shoutout my cousin and her husband Nikkia And Antwoine. They are the business owners of ILovett Custom and are my biggest help with my business. I moved in with them and watching they way they ran their business influenced me to start up my clothing brand. I never had any idea I would be making and selling clothes but thanks to them I’ve started and I’m flourishing and they help me every single day with my business whether it’s from physically hands on teaching me to make something, or teaching how to separate my business money from spending money they help me with it all and I just want to shoutout to them for all the love and support Thank Guys.
