We had the good fortune of connecting with Xik Art and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xik, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is everything, I love it and need it in my line of work. Like new ideas, concepts, and mostly decisions. There is always two turn outs, it worked or didn’t worked, but you will never know until you take it. For example, in a decision making situation, if the risk didn’t turned out as you imagined I think that is ok, from mistakes you learn and know what to do next time that a similar situation is presented. Because of risk is where I am today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is mostly based around chimpanzees, monkeys and stencils. I used monkeys because they are us, and if not just like us. I do it just to reflect an emotion of a moment or something that made me laugh, I make that reaction in the interpretation of a monkey in different versions. I used other animals as well all depends on my mood.

I got where I am with a lot of patience, dedication and a lot of practice. It has not being easy, but nothing that is worth it is easy. I overcome challenges by always trying again and again until I get it right and I and happy with the outcome. Always take to consideration criticism, that could be the best tool to improve you work. But keeping in mind that you always do it because it feels right and makes you happy. That is one of my rules that I got by.

My art is gateway to make my life easier and express emotions or memories, but mainly having fun in the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I have friends stopping by to visit I take them always to Wyndwood, to walk those art filled streets, the beaches are a must I like to go to Full Moon Beach, peaceful and beautiful. One of my favorite thing to do in Miami is going Brewery Hoping, I have had the best beers of my life here at Miami.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to dedicate this Shoutout to all my friends for always supporting me, and my family without them I would have the drive and motivation that I always have.
