Meet Yakalis Colon | Beauty Studio Owner & Master Hairstylist | Specializing in Transformative Hair Experiences

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yakalis Colon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yakalis, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from the Dominican Republic, and my journey started early — I began doing hair at just 14 years old. It came so naturally to me that what started as fun with friends quickly became something bigger. People began trusting me with their look, their confidence, and over time, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby — it was a calling.
I was raised by my grandparents, and they played a huge role in shaping who I am. My grandfather was a businessman who taught me the power of independence and hustle, and my grandmother showed me what it means to work hard with grace and love. From them, I learned that success isn’t just about skill — it’s about commitment, discipline, and showing up with heart every day.
I didn’t grow up with a lot, but I grew up with values — love, integrity, resilience — and those are the same principles that guide me today. As a Latina businesswoman in Miami, I built Yaeb Beauty Studio with those roots in mind. It’s more than just a salon — it’s a space where people feel seen, cared for, and empowered. I carry my culture, my story, and my passion into every service, and I’m proud to represent where I come from.

What should our readers know about your business?
Owning a business has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. I built Yaeb Beauty Studio with purpose, vision, and a deep love for what I do — but it definitely wasn’t easy. Behind the brand, there’s a woman who had to break through limiting beliefs, start over more than once, and fight through fear to follow her gift.
I’ve been doing hair since I was 14 years old. But turning that talent into a business took more than skill — it required mindset work, resilience, and faith. There were times when giving up felt easier, but I kept going because of the way I feel when I’m doing someone’s hair versus sitting in an office. That feeling — that connection — reminded me of my purpose every time.
Yaeb Beauty Studio is more than just a salon. It’s a space where clients feel seen, heard, and truly cared for. I focus on creating a customized experience for each person who walks in, with long-term beauty and wellness in mind. Here, it’s not just about the hairstyle — it’s about how you feel in your skin. Because a woman’s hair is never just hair — it’s identity, confidence, healing, and power.
What sets my business apart is intention. Everything I do comes from love, service, and a deep belief that beauty is personal. I want the world to know that when you sit in my chair, you’re not just getting a service — you’re getting a piece of my heart, my culture, and my commitment to helping you feel like the most empowered version of yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to Miami, we’d start with a glam session at Yaeb Beauty Studio — obviously . Then brunch in Coconut Grove, art in Wynwood, a beach day in South Beach, cafecito in Little Havana, and shopping in the Design District. Somewhere in there, we’re definitely squeezing in a scenic run by the water — because balance! We’d wrap it all up with a sunset boat ride or rooftop drinks. Miami’s energy is unmatched — beauty, culture, movement, and fun all in one.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who’ve played a role in my journey, but I have to start with my grandparents. They raised me with love, structure, and values that have carried me through every season of life. My grandfather’s entrepreneurial mindset and my grandmother’s example of hard work and faith truly built the foundation of who I am today.
I also want to shout out my amazing clients — the women who sit in my chair and trust me with not just their hair, but their energy. Their loyalty, stories, and support inspire me every single day.
And to my family and close friends who’ve cheered me on when things got hard, who reminded me of my purpose when I questioned it — thank you. I wouldn’t be here without that encouragement and love.
