We had the good fortune of connecting with Yanira Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yanira, what makes you happy? Why?
Being a photographer truly makes me happy. I get to capture beautiful women and families. As a woman I love being able to help other women feel and look confident. I want to capture all the little and big moments for others to have for a lifetime.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a creative portrait photographer some of the few things that make me stand out from others is the creative process to each photoshoot. I am a very visual learner and enjoy being able to brainstorm and come up with different concepts. I sell beauty, confidence and attitude. I love being able to showcase all these emotions through the camera. I also incorporate props, accessories and fashion to bring life to the vision.

It’s a work in progress but I started by taking my own pictures at home with random backgrounds and using little to no props to make the image come to life and slowly started taking clients. I will say it hasn’t been easy but what has kept me going is seeing others reaction to my work, makes it all worth it this tells me that I am doing something right.

As a business owner and photographer I have learned experimenting and shooting consistently will help you find your artistic voice. Building relationships with clients, models, and other creatives opens up opportunities. Always have clear agreements on pricing, rights, and deliverables.

I want the world to know that I am here to bring your vision to life and help you feel confident, comfortable and valued inside and out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A perfect week in Miami would be going to the key Biscayne private beaches to feel like you’re in an island enjoy the beautiful views. Also Miami design district is very nice to shop and eat. Going downtown to the clubs is very fun for night adventures. So many museums to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a special shout out to my two mentors. My first mentor I found on social media her name is Rosa she is also a photographer who specializes in children and family portraits. She held a workshop and decided to attend, it was a game changer for me. She helped me further understand how to use a digital camera, lighting, how to start a business, etc. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. My second mentor is Tony Chirinos my college photographer professor that taught me photography from scratch. I learned how to shoot and develop film, editing, creating a portfolio and so much more. He helped me understand the origin of photography and how to visualize and showcase your artwork.
