We had the good fortune of connecting with Yanna Machi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was the right time; I had been preparing myself after finishing my bachelor’s degree in Fashion design, acquiring skills and learning as much
as I could about my craft and about businesses, when the opportunity
presented itself, it was as if everything aligned, I did not feel ready, but I
knew it was time to take the leap, so I did and it was one the most
important decisions in my life. So I guess my thought process was
something along the lines of: You are as ready as you’ll ever be, go all in.
What should our readers know about your business?
Part of what sets me apart, is that I take the time to understand how my work can make a difference in my customers lives. My proudest moments, workwise, are when customers tell me I have made them feel confident and beautiful, by creating something uniquely tailored to them. They can walk confident and comfortable in the most important moments of their lives, with the empowering effect of wearing something that is just right. It is not simply about creating garments, it is about getting to know people and develop unique designs that work specifically for them. I love custom-made. Working one on one with the final receptor of my product has great advantages for both parts, it becomes a cherished experience that adds a different layer of enjoyment to their special occasions, and it gives me the insight I need to deliver garments that work in the specific circumstances of each customer. They know when they come to me, their voices will be heard, and when they walk down the aisle in their wedding, for example, they will be wearing something exquisite made just for them, and the fit is exactly right to their body. Everyone has their unique flavor, and we all benefit more when we work with it and stay true to ourselves. Even when people chose to follow trends, for the look to be successful, customization is essential, I am a firm believer that garments are not meant to be worn off the rack, the sizing system is rigged to the conveniences of mass production, making people feel they have to fit into clothes, when it’s the other way around.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much I enjoy about South Florida and all the places I get to share with friends and family on their visit. We are lucky to have a mecca of food, nature, and entertainment all at arms reach. I mostly enjoy a more laid back visit that includes snacks and cocktails in our backyard and pool, since we always have some point of the day where its enjoyable to lounge outside. When our guests are ready for a tour guide, my must go to spots include The Alchemist In Wilton Manors, the atmosphere and small bites are one of a kind. The Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood is a must since it is filled with local vendors, farm fresh food, and sometimes they have fun events like Yoga! Even if our guests aren’t too adventurous, everyone always enjoys and evening by the beach. I find the RoofTop Bar at the Tru Hotel in Pompano Beach a perfect place to end our day. It doesn’t matter who comes to visit, there is always something fun to do!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my biggest supporter, he has been by my side every step of the way from the very beginning when I started Fashion School until today. He is the one that
made me think about fashion school to begin with; his encouragement made me
believe in myself in a time I was not 100% sure about my potential. He continues to
be an essential part of what I am able to do today. Shoutout to you Al Martinez,
Thank you for everything.
