We had the good fortune of connecting with Yulia Meliksetyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yulia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To me, risk is like a big adventure—sometimes things work out amazingly, and other times, they teach us valuable lessons. Taking risks is like giving ourselves a chance to grow and learn.
My journey started at a young age when I began working for a major hospitality group; there, I realized how embracing risks can lead to incredible experiences. One of the most pivotal steps I took was when I was 18 when I received an offer to a higher position with a lot of responsibilities, and even though I was uncertain, I took the leap, and that decision changed everything. It was like a domino effect; embracing that risk led me to leave my small town in Siberia and explore new opportunities. Later, I decided to leave my country, of course, it was scary at times, but each risk I took opened doors to new experiences and places.
My willingness to take risks isn’t confined to my career—it’s a fundamental part of my life. I’ve explored different passions like running, but after completing 3 marathons, my interest faded. Once, I completed yoga teacher training with hopes of becoming an instructor, but teaching yoga just didn’t fit my personality. I aspired to be a health coach at one point, but that dream didn’t turn out as I’d hoped – I just couldn’t monetize that business. Even though it all didn’t work out as I planned, the act of trying each one was a risk in itself; regardless of the outcomes, these experiences enriched my journey and taught me valuable lessons along the way.
Another significant risk was transitioning industries and becoming a partner in my current company. This decision involved leaving behind a stable position in the construction industry and embracing a more profound role. The risk has been exceptionally rewarding, allowing me to contribute meaningfully and shape the company’s growth. As a leader, I encourage my team to take thoughtful risks as well, as I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of stepping into the unknown.
Sure, there have been challenges, but each time it has shown me a path to something better. I’m committed to taking risks as I reach even more goals and experiences.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Certainly, for those in our community who may not be familiar with our business, allow me to provide more information. I’m proud to hold the position as Vice President of Sales at Filmbase USA; our company holds the exclusive distinction of being the largest distributor of Smart Privacy Solutions in the United States. Our flagship product, the Smart Privacy Film, represents cutting-edge technology designed to be applied to existing glass surfaces. What sets this film apart is its ability to transform ordinary glass into smart glass. With a simple click, this innovation allows the glass to transition from a private (frosted) state to an open (clear) one. Whether it’s applied to windows or doors, the transformation is seamless and instantaneous.
This product is nothing short of remarkable, and I receive immense satisfaction from assisting individuals and businesses alike in fulfilling their privacy needs for both residential and commercial projects.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would kick off our week with a leisurely day at the South of Fifth Beach, one of my favorite spots; enjoy meals at Smith and Wollensky while savoring the sunset by the waterfront; to keep the beach vibes going, and we would spend the rest of the night at the Joya Beach.
During our trip, we’d explore some of the local gems, starting with a visit to the captivating Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. We’d also immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Little Havana, indulging in delicious Cuban cuisine.
Next on our adventure, we’d head to the serene Islamorada. We’d enjoy beachfront accommodations by choosing between the cozy Cheeca Lodge & Spa or Moorings Village. A highlight of this stop would undoubtedly be a dinner at Pierre’s. We’d make the most of the outdoors with activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply basking by the water.
One morning, we’d set sail on a yacht up north, perhaps docking in Palm Beach to explore the renowned Breakers.
Returning to Miami, we’d dive into the city’s dynamic vibes. Casa Tua Cucina would be our choice for a delectable lunch, followed by a visit to the artsy Design District to explore unique galleries and shops. Our evening plans would involve dinner at Mila and then an exciting dance party somewhere in Downtown Miami.
As our adventure ends, we’d spend the last day watching the sunset at Biscayne Park, enjoying the breathtaking views. To conclude our fantastic week, we’d savor a delightful dinner and great wines at Vinya Wine Bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to all my friends, who became family; without them, I would never be here; also, to my old running team Russian Running Club NYC, and new one, Fort Lauderdale Running Club; Zen Den Yoga School; Dr. Sears Wellness Institute, my company Filmbase USA.
