We had the good fortune of connecting with Zahir Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zahir, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In music if you don’t take a risk you will not gain anything. I went broke numerous times to fund my music ventures and in my eyes it’s paying off each time I elevate my fan base and the quality of my music. Risk taking is crucial to my lifestyle and without it, I would not flourish. Rapping had caused a lot of failures that only turned into lessons which helped me progress not only in music but as a person as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started doing music in the 6th grade just by playing around with my friends. It allowed me to express myself and find my purpose. At first my own friends laughed at me but after I showed them I was serious and put in hard work and accepted critical criticism it furthered my talent. To overcome my challenges of not being taken serious it took a lot of support from my friends and a lot of networking. I also had to fight the demon of a lack of motivation.I learned that patients is key and motivation is needed to achieve what you want in life. In my music I try to motivate my listeners to make money, chase goals, avoid the drama and politics and be independent. Rapping is not for everyone but if you truly believe you have the talent go for it. Not everyone starts off good and I’m living proof but If you dedicate time and have fun with the music I’m telling you it can only go farther and farther.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the beach 1st because that’s what we are known for. Then I would show them around wynwood because that’s shows a lil bit of everything Miami: Food,Art, Music, Culture. I also have to take them to the studio to show them where the magic happens: @xponentstudios
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my family for supporting every decision I made with my music. I would also like to thank, Malakye, Anthony, Nate, Demarcus, Kevin, Gio, Fatima and Amyah for supporting my music and actively trying to help me achieve my dream. Friends and supporters have played a key role in getting to the position I am now. I want to also thank my teachers that supported my music and education throughout the years. Not only would I like to thank my supporters but I would like to thank my engineer, Chris @mixedbyxb too for helping me produce my vocals at a professional level. Overall I would like to thank everybody who genuinely supported me and gave good hearted advice on how to traverse through my journey as a recording artist in Miami.
