We had the good fortune of connecting with Zee -R. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zee, how do you think about risk?
I’m from the entertainment business, Where it’s ALL about risks. what I learned from my 25-year experience is that risk taking has some distinct analysis phases. -First: you must have deep knowledge of your product and a humble self-evaluation so you know how far you can go with it. In my case for example, I started as a Jazz interpreter and I knew only 5% of the population listen to Jazz music so I chose my strategy according to that information. -Second: Be bold but wise. When you’re in a career where risks matter, the difficult part lies on finding the exact balance between being aggressive (which is very important in music business for example) but not to spend all you chips in one hand. -Third: Good partners are more important than a good product. Having a good product is a commodity of course, but in my business, loyal partners, regular sponsors, good deal suppliers, faithful investors among others are more important for you to achieve success. Focus on them first. -Fourth: Rome wasn’t built in one day. Be patient. I decided to take less risks in smaller events and being patient building it up way slower until I could afford bigger marketing and sales structures to walk a step forward in my career. If you’re an anxious person, working with risks is not the best choice.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I guess the best way for an artist to explain his/her good work is talk a little about achievements: 25-year career, more than 3000 concerts in more than 300 cities all over the world. 14 records, 3 DVDs, My music made me a United Nations goodwill ambassador for my country Brazil in 2013., which earned me the honor of been chosen to perform as the opening act for B.B. King’s last Brazilian tour. played the most important jazz and blues festivals in south america as well as TV shows. After all this time, I thought It was time for me to challenge myself and move to the United States to develop my career to an international level . Nowadays I live in Orlando FL, where I’m setting everything up to release my own show in March 2021 which will receive tourists and music lovers form around the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, – Start with Disney and Universal parks for sure, – Some shows from the off-parks circuit like SLEUTHS, CAPONE,S and MEDIEVAL TIMES will be 100% fun guaranteed. – If you like music I would suggest the House Of Blues and Tin Roof where you’ll always find good live bands. – one tip: look for some local good restaurants instead of the famous franchises. Lots of possibilities of good food and very affordable prices
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. A perfect demonstration of how music and marketing can work together. Mixing their music with branding, positioning, franchising among other techniques, those two guys created not only a musical phenomena, but one of the greatest American cultural institutions: the band KISS.
