We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Lane Holm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Never giving up. To keep moving forward even when there are times I think that I might never “get there”. By that- I mean not reaching the level of success I’ve expected of myself. (even though I have)

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is wonderfully sweet yet silly and quirky. I love creating my own world, my own characters, it becomes my story. I always share a part of me when I create. I feel that art comes from within, from the soul. I get excited watching my art evolve from an idea to an illustration. Or a thought growing into a story. I got to where I am by not giving up. Rejection and disappointment- its life. No instruction manuals for that! But believing in my art and myself, I learned to push through those times and kept going. I feel more confident about my art than ever before. I feel I am finally reaching a point where I’m proud of my art, my artistic style and myself. My artwork is a true reflection of me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in Florida, I would take them to the beach. Beautiful blue skies, the ocean, the sun. I need that. I need to appreciate the beauty of all that nature offers. We tend to take that for granted. We would hang out at the beach, eat and drink at the local beach eateries. Reconnecting with a best friend would be fun and interesting. We would already have comfort level with each other, enough to create our own excitement. That’s my thought about exciting and fun things to check out, and I’m sticking with it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many. The support of my family, especially support from my husband. Mentorship from my first artist representative. Much love and lots of encouragement from friends, especially fellow artists.
