Stories, Lessons & Insights

We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

Before launching Dashh Aviation, my wife and I had each spent many years working in private aviation, both in the U.S., Europe and around the world. We were thriving in our respective roles—me managing aircraft operations and fleet logistics, and her leading relationships and concierge with top-tier clients. We were on opposite sides of the business but always aligned in our standards of excellence. Read More>>

I moved back to the US in 2020 after two years of “nomading” across Latin America; my memories (and suitcases) full of colorful prints from Rio de Janeiro, hand-woven bags from Medellin, Pima cotton scarves from Cusco, leather accessories from Mexico City… Read More>>

There are thousands of books on parenting—and for good reason. Raising children is one of the most complex and important responsibilities anyone can take on. Yet, despite the abundance of advice, one truth remains clear: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to being a parent. Read More>>

I think is the most important thing I’ve done as a parent. The thing I think is the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to show my kids that all is possible as long as you put in the work and show determination. No matter how big or small, I’ve tried to teach them to complete whatever they start. Once they see that they can do it, they have the confidence to face any challenge they encounter in life. I’m inspired by my children, the mission of my Business Uniqly Made Foundation, and most profoundly, by the life and legacy of my UniqWarrior, Jahmya. Losing Jahmya changed everything. It broke me and built me at the same time. Her strength, her light, and the fight she carried within her continue to live on through me. Her journey fuels my purpose, reminding me daily why I do this work. Read More>>

I want my legacy to be one of light, resilience, and faith. I hope to be remembered not only as an artist but as someone who used creativity to bring healing and hope into the world. Whether it’s a child’s smile upon seeing their room transformed by a mural or a quiet moment of reflection sparked by devotional art, I want every project to be an offering of grace, inspiring others to believe in beauty, in kindness, and a higher truth. One piece of conventional advice I’ve come to disagree with is “just keep your head down and work hard.” That advice might come from a good place, but in reality — especially for people like me who’ve faced repeated workplace discrimination — it’s not always enough. I kept my head down. I worked hard. I went above and beyond. And I was still treated unfairly. Read More>>

Many people think being a photographer is just about clicking a button… and that’s it. But there’s so much more behind the scenes: study, lots of practice, planning, creative direction, endless hours of editing, emotional connection with clients, and a significant physical effort. Read More>>

You don’t just take photos; you become your own marketing team, editor, customer service rep, and social media strategist. I’m no master of social media, but I’ve learned how to get my videos seen by consistently posting at peak times, using trending sounds, and understanding what kind of content my audience actually wants to see. Balance or staying centered is at the forefront of my awareness. I am actively learning to stop, pause, and notice. No decision or action can be made without first moving from the very center. So every day is an opportunity of learning to observe the mind and see what emotions are there as the witness. I understand that things done with a scattered mind reveal scattered results, so when I began to walk this path with true intention, it required that I be vigilant and aware that I am aware. Every morning, I set the tone of the day with Kriyas and stillness. Read More>>

My work life balance has been up and down over time for sure. I try to keep my balance mainly based on my creative inspiration. Every artist knows the challenges of experiencing artists-block or burn out. When I feel inspired or excited to create, I create all that I can while I’m on the roll. Then, I use this content and these art pieces over time when I’m not feeling as excited to create. I also find fuel in response from other people, so commission-work and encouragement can be so so helpful. Read More>>
