I’ve always considered myself to be a humble person, never really applauding my successes, my wins, or just really any of my personal achievements. As I’m getting older, I realize that its perfectly acceptable to be proud of yourself for the wins, whether big or small, and also picking yourself up after the losses, but never thinking you are better than, or more capable of something than the person beside you. So definitely I would say humility, you will go so much further in life as a grounded individual. I also think that being kind is something we should all strive for now more than ever. I write about women filmmakers, primarily producers, writers, screenwriters, and stars working in 1930s and 1940s Hollywood. I’m inspired by these women because they chose alternate paths through a dominant structure that tried to box them in. They were determined to make change. These Hollywood storytellers were the change-makers of their times: the writer-producer Joan Harrison, director Ida Lupino, and stars such as Carole Lombard, Bette Davis, and Barbara Stanwyck. I find their work and their life stories more relevant today than ever because we live in a time when it’s important to fight for equality, justice, and to be strategic and creative as we go about it. When I created Magical Pix, it was my goal to create an experience where everyone would feel comfortable having their picture taken. When you are looking for a photographer for your family, wedding, or special event it can become overwhelming when every picture a photographer posts only includes people who look like Instagram models.
