Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

I made for it. I’ve always had two feet into the artistic landscape, whether it was dance, poetry, percussion, and now music.
I’m a published poet and have even done some work with O’Miami. I competed in Brave New Voices and Louder Than a Bomb Florida! In pursuing an artistic career, I gave myself the freedom to truly chase my dreams. I’m still, to this day, chasing that dream, and going after all the things that I would obsess over as a little kid, like singing to a crowd and creating music and directing/producing/marketing with all kinds of creatives, who in turn teach me and guide me as I grow and network. Finding a community in the artistic space is so beautiful and not talked about as often as the process of making art, but when you do find that community – that space – where like-minded people gather and mesh their ideas together, it’s a driving force to keep doing what you’re doing, no matter how hard it can get and no matter how often you want to give up. Ayesha Bakshi | Foodie Influencer

Saloni and I were part of the same food and fun loving clique in undergrad. Going to school in Miami meant that our weekend plans were stacked with trying the Magic City’s delicious and diverse cuisines. Whether that be visiting The Island Deck Gardens for the gorgeous view of that legendary skyline or trying a unique sous vide egg on mushroom toast at Balan’s; we tried it all. Creating food memories was another class on our schedule. However, after graduating, that past time was gone as we went our separate ways. Purely for nostalgic purposes, Saloni and I wanted to keep tabs on each other’s individual gastronomic endeavors so we created a shared album dedicated to rating the latest spots we tried in our respective cities.
