Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?


Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

You are born with this talent. I remember that at the age of 5, that curiosity for music began. I listened to different types of musical genres since I was little, singing, and you develop it over time and you realize that you connect with people through music.

I pursued an artistic career because, at its core, creativity offers a unique avenue for connection, healing, and self-discovery. Growing up navigating the complexities of immigration and cultural identity, I often felt a deep sense of disconnection—between my personal experience and the world around me. Poetry became a powerful way to bridge that gap, both within myself and between me and others.
